2003 is history. 2004 has begun and I once again did not get a Parker Fly.
sigh. This time the problem was a self-destructing transmission in the
Caravan. At 100,000 they just go. Weighed the options - new trans vs Parker,
I know what I thought was more important. My wife informed me otherwise.

So I am trying to console myself by looking through the catalogs and this
crazy notion hits me. I think I'll buy a mandolin. I have never even held
one before. Don't know how to tune it, play it, or anything about them. Have
often made fun of mandolin players because it is hard to look manly playing
one. Yet I have one ordered. Musicians Friend has a cheap intro level
starter pack that is (was) $20 less than buying the same instrument alone.

Not expecting a great instrument. Just want to have some fun. Anyone know
how to play a mandolin? Any tips?
