Created For A Purpose
Quote from Forum Archives on September 5, 2007, 10:06 amPosted by: <@...>
Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying: "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations." (Jeremiah 1:4-5 NKJV)
For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV)
"Why am I here?" It is asked as much by believers as by unbelievers. Evolutionists declare that man is merely a product of chance, born without purpose. Deists
conclude that God has no participation in the affairs of men; therefore, man must create his own identity and purpose. Yet the bible clearly demonstrates a different pattern.
Abraham walked with God (Genesis 17:1). Enoch walked with God (Genesis 5:22-24). Noah walked with God (Genesis 6:9). David walked with God (I Kings 3:6, 14). Phillip walked with God (Acts 8). Jesus (our example) walked with God (John 5:19, 8:29). And the list goes on.
You and I were created for intimacy with the Triune God (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) that transcends religious tradition or outward works. God desires a relationship with you that is personal and life-giving; where you lavish your love upon Him in worship, and He pours His love upon you in return; where the deepest desire of your heart is to spend time with Him, communicating with Him in prayer, listening for His voice, getting to know His heart. Where your mind is renewed by His Word until His thoughts become your thoughts and His image is reflected in you. Granted, it is a pursuit whose passion will never be fully sated this side of eternity. Yet why would we settle for anything less than our purpose?
Heavenly Father, Your purpose, Your plans, Your dream for me are all that I desire. Help me to walk in the fullness of that purpose, I pray.
In Jesus' name, amen.
