Is it possible our culture will end not with a bang but a whimper?
Could this issue really make things that bad?
For many years I have wanted to write something on the utter
collapse of birthrates across the developed world - and how
serious this is. The "replacement" level is 2.1 children per family.
Anything less and your population will eventually shrink away.
And the developed world (including the USA, Canada, Europe,
Australia, etc) has now been below replacement for DECADES.
There is a population 'explosion' in Africa, but a population
"implosion" in the West. How serious could this "birth dearth"
get? I believe it will collapse many economies over the next 50
years. In fact, it could become literally a "death spiral" for many
countries (including most of Europe, East Asia and Eastern
Europe. ie. Much of today's world).
The best documentary on this (that I know of) is called
