does anyone live where there's no poisnous snakes? Our toddler was nearly bit Sunday!

Hi all,
Our 32-month old son was nearly bitten by a rattlesnake yesterday while we
were at our neighbor's house across the highway. He was playing in their
small front yard, nice grassy area.
He went to get a basketball that had rolled into a flower bed area against
the foundation. This area is near their front door which they don't always
use.
Anyway, a 4-foot long rattlesnake was there and either lunged at Jacob or
just scared him with rattling. He was on his tail with his mouth open when
my teen came around to see what Jacob was hollering about. I praise God for
His protection of Jacob, He was the only one with Jacob. But, I've spent the
last 16 years walking around with my head to the ground looking for
rattlesnakes. We have seen probably 15 or more in our time here. Most people
out here have never seen one....we've killed 15 on our property, and now see
one across the highway. Our neighbor had just been saying he had only seen 2
in 21 years here and then that one was right in his front yard. Having
little children walking around with killers on the ground is very hard for
me. I know God is watching, but like I told dh, God protects us all the
time, but He also expects us to use our brains. We don't ride without seat
belts, we don't drink and drive, we try to make safe and smart choices. In
this case, we are pretty sure there are dens in the hills across the road
and when the snakes leave their dens, they come right across by our house.
To top it off, we have no doctor in our town, only three mornings a week,
and the nearest hospital is 45 minutes away. The ambulance in town is manned
by volunteers if they can find them. These are risks I don't want to assume
any longer. I know there is no Garden of Eden, but there are places that
aren't infested with rattlensnakes!

So, please let me know the snake situation in your area....cold and snow
don't bother me like snakes do! Oh, this is Jacob's second encounter with a
rattlesnake, both times he was by himself, and he's not even 3 yet! Whew!

Have a great Monday,
Lisa
