EACH ONE REACH ONE
INTRODUCTION:
In John 1:35-46 we read about the calling of the disciples of Jesus Christ. We see a very definite sequence in this passage:
- Jesus called John and John followed the Lord (35-42)
- John reached Andrew and Andrew followed the Lord
- Andrew reached Peter and Peter followed the Lord
- Jesus called Phillip and Phillip followed the Lord ((43-46)
- Phillip reached Nathanael and Nathanael followed the Lord
Each of the disciples was reached one by one!! And from this group of men, the word of God was preached throughout the land and the Gospel message went around the world.
BUT IT STARTED WITH ONE REACHING ONE!!
Throughout the history of Christianity, we see a profound effect that one person had upon another:
- Jethro (father in law) over Moses
- Jonathan over David
- Delilah over Samson
- Elijah over Elisha
- Jesus over Samaritan woman (whole village revival)
- Disciples over N.T. Christians (breaking bread...house to)
- THE APPLICATION OF ALL OF THIS:
Each of us is absolutely vital to God's program and to the ministry of the local church!!
I. EACH OF US HAS A PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY:
John 4, Jesus said, I must go through Samaria
Paul said, 1 Cor 9:22 To the weak became I as weak, that I might gain the weak: I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
All that God has done for us....He wants to do for others!! and do it through us if we will but let Him!!
Personal responsibility should want us want to live our lives so that others will see Christ living in and through us!!
-If others see little resemblance to Christ in our life: we have very little chance of reaching them
Josh 24:15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
II. EACH OF US HAS A PRESSING RESPONSIBILITY:
NO greater time to commit yourself than now!!
If it is ever to get it done; do it now!!
A. THE TIME IS SHORT
1. There is no better opportunity than now
2. In the world things won't get any better; or easier
3. You and i cannot make enough changes for the world to become better
- ** some startling statistics to consider:
- #1 cause of death among teenagers: ACCIDENT
- #2 cause of death among teens: SUICIDE
- Nearly 1 out of every 2 marriages end in divorce
- No safe time limit to marriages staying together
- -what about the children of these divorces
- -phrases like "latch key" have never been heard of before
- -year round school is coming: babysitters will be raising kids!
B. THE TRUMPET IS CERTAIN
One trumpet blast away from eternity
1 Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1 Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:CONCLUSION:
People are not reached in masses like perhaps they once were. Most are reached just like the disciples....one person sharing his/her faith with another. and then that one sharing their faith with another....
"WHAT CAN I DO?"
-start by committing yourself to Christ afresh; anew
-continue by setting a goal
"I will purpose in my heart to reach one person for Christ "
-see them in church, see them saved, see them baptized, see them discipled, see them attending faithfully, see them growing as a Christian, see them inviting others
EACH ONE -HAS TO AND CAN- REACH ONE!!
