9-24-2017 Is Marriage Forever"
Luke 20:27-40 "Then Jesus was approached by some Sadducees—religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. They posed this question: "Teacher, Moses gave us a law that if a man dies, leaving a wife but no children, his brother should marry the widow and have a child who will carry on the brother's name. Well, suppose there were seven brothers. The oldest one married and then died without children. So the second brother married the widow, but he also died. Then the third brother married her. This continued with all seven of them, who died without children. Finally, the woman also died. So tell us, whose wife will she be in the resurrection? For all seven were married to her!" Jesus replied, "Marriage is for people here on earth. But in the age to come, those worthy of being raised from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage. And they will never die again. In this respect they will be like angels. They are children of God and children of the resurrection. "But now, as to whether the dead will be raised—even Moses proved this when he wrote about the burning bush. Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, he referred to the Lord as 'the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.' So he is the God of the living, not the dead, for they are all alive to him." "Well said, Teacher!" remarked some of the teachers of religious law who were standing there. And then no one dared to ask him any more questions." NLT
Sadducees did not believe in the resurrection - and that was SadUSee
They used the example of marriage to try to trick Him, that was the wrong thing to do FOR MANY REASONS!
- They should know by now that they cannot trick Jesus
- But, as the text says, They are posers…questioning
- If there is one group of people on earth that BELIEVE in the resurrection STRONGLY it is married folks!
- The vows end "Till Death Do You Part" for a reason!
- Some, like me, don't want to lose what we have here on earth in a Godly, loving, intelligent, driven spouse!
- Some, like Co…..; well SOME – might be looking forward to a well deserved break!
- After 7 marriages I bet this poor lady was READY for the Resurrection!
- Marriage is for those living in the FIRST LIFE!
- Life here on earth…NOW
- Love and be FAITHFUL to your spouse NOW!
- Be there for your spouse NOW!
i. These 50 – 75 – 100 years of NOW are NOTHING compared to eternity.
- In heaven we will all be the Children of God
- And face it…it would be weird to be married to your sister or brother for all eternity!
- As for the resurrection
- Moses proved it
i. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are all alive in eternity.
- Jesus let Peter, James and John see this on the Mount of Trasfiguration recorded in Matthew 17 when Moses and Elijah appeared to them.
i. This also answers one of the Questions from our Wednesday Night survey "Will we recognize our family when we get to heaven?"
ii. Apparently so BUT they will not be our spouses, children, grandparents, parents, Uncles, etc – They will be our Brothers and Sisters.
- Jesus taught resurrection
- Jesus modeled resurrection
i. Matthew 28….. You will remember 'Early Sunday Morning"….and…"He aint here! He is RISEN!"
ii. Mark 16 – Jesus was "Taken Up Into Heaven"
- Take heart – SECOND LIFE…ETERNAL LIFE…THE RESURRECTED LIFE is coming
- It is worth the wait
i. No more death
ii. Live forever as Gods Children
- If you are worthy
- ARE YOU WORTHY
- John 1:10-13 "He came into the very world he created, but the world didn't recognize him. He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God." NLT
