Epiphone Chet Atkins SST

Tomorrow will be the first time I play it in church, so I'll have more to
say about the tone later (although it sounded very good at practice
Wednesday night). The first thing is, this guitar is gorgeous. I'll be
honest, I bought the heritage cherry sunburst because it was $80 cheaper
than the natural or black, and I could afford to get the hard case instead
of a gig bag. I know the HCS finish has been discontinued, but I cannot
figure out why... it is beautiful! The action is a little higher than I
like out of the box so it probably needs a good setup. The strings seem to
be medium and feel like piano cables. I replaced them today with a lighter
gauge so I will tell more about how it plays tomorrow after I've played in
the new strings. The nut and bridge are both plastic, which I expected and
both will likely eventually be replaced. The bridge pegs are also plastic
and those will be replaced as well. There is no strap button on the neck
or back which is a little strange. One of the reviews on American Musical
Supply said that the guy added one to one of the screws on the battery
plate - but I'm wondering if this is really such a good idea. Seems like
putting pressure of a strap on a screw that will have to be removed and
reinstalled might not be wise. The neck feels a whole lot like my Epiphone
Dot, which is very comfortable for me, and in my hands the guitar feels
entirely like a solid body electric (which it is), which is also very
comfortable for me. All in all, I think this is going to be a great
guitar. More after tomorrow.
