Everlasting Father

For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is
given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be
called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6
Christmas is often a time when we are
reminded of family. For some, it is the anticipation of a joyous gathering. For
others, it is a fresh remembrance of those no longer with us. For still others,
it is the grief of what never was.
Did you know that the very heart and purpose
of Christmas is that God wanted a family? We are not born again into an
organization, but into a family. Because of Adam’s fall, the people God created
and loved so dearly were spiritually separated from Him and destined to spend
eternity apart from Him. So into this desperate, orphaned world, God sent a
Father.
As Father, Jesus brings identity to those
who identify themselves with Him. As Father, He brings purpose to those who
follow Him. As Father, He brings security to those who put their trust in Him. And
as Everlasting Father, He will never, ever forsake us. From eternity past
through eternity future, He is Emmanuel – God with us. He came to show us the
Father (God) by being Father.
Psalm 68:5-6 says that God is a Father to
the fatherless, He places the solitary in families and gives the desolate a
home in which to dwell. In other words, He gives us a place of belonging.
Yes, the story of Christmas is about family.
God wanted a family and He chose you. May you know the tender embrace of the
Father’s love for you this Christmas. From our family to yours, Merry Christmas! To subscribe: <adevotionalgroup-subscribe@welovegod.org>
