Dear Hope Chest readers,Here are a few "extras and announcements" for your consideration:
Prayer request for baby Alissa Hope Chest web site is moving! Next week's topic: Reading Comprehension Great CD and book from Sovereign Grace Marriage conference in Orlando Feedback from Ten Commandments message Prayer request for the Knowles familyPRAYER REQUEST FOR BABY ALISSA
My friend Alice Gunther called this morning with an urgent prayer request. She attended her friend Teresa during the birth of baby Alissa last night. The baby has a strep B infection, is in critical condition, and is not expected to survive. Please pray for baby Alissa!HOPE CHEST WEB SITE IS MOVING!The Hope Chest web site is moving soon. The old site at www.hopechest.homestead.com/welcome.html will not be operational after September 20. The new location at www.thehopechest.net is not up yet, but I'll let you know when it is! A kind Hope Chest reader, Susie, is moving it to her server for me! Check out Susie's web design business at: http://www.truelightcreations.comREADING COMPREHENSIONNext weeks topic is READING COMPREHENSION at all age levels from preschool to adult. Ive got some of my own ideas on this, but Id love to hear from all of you! I am particularly interested in how to teach children to extract meaning from what they are reading, without having someone else continually interpret it for them.GREAT CD AND BOOK FROM SOVEREIGN GRACE
I also want to mention a great new CD for those who like contemporary praise and worship music. "All We Long to See" which is #9 in the Come and Worship series from Sovereign Grace, has been playing almost continuously since I bought it with my birthday money on Tuesday. (It's the kind of music that teens love too, so I often find this CD in their player. We sing many of these songs at Metro Life Church.) Check out the web site to hear the music, watch video interviews, and download the lyrics to such songs as "Jesus, My Only Hope" by Mark Altrogge and "The Audience of One" by Steve and Vikki Cook:

While you're at the Sovereign Grace web site, check out Carolyn Mahaney's new book, Feminine Appeal, published by Crossway Books. Though it has plenty of meat in it for veteran mom's, it's also a great introduction to the Titus 2 lifestyle. This is the kind of book you will want to loan to your friends, but also keep in your own library. (So get two copies!)

All are welcome! For information, call Metro Life at 407-740-0561. I think the cost is about $20.
FEEDBACK FROM TEN COMMANDMENTS MESSAGE
Virginia, here is a neat site for the 10 Commandments online. You can read them or share them in several different languages/countries also. Check it out! Thanks for all you do to encourage and bless the home-schooling community at large. Blessings, Sunny http://www.the10commandments.info/ (Elizabeth Loop also sent in this link!)
Lucy Hughes reports that her sixteen year old son Gabriel had been reading One Thing You Can't Do in Heaven. "Being motivated by the book, he made up little encouragement cards via computer with a quote from Spurgeon and will go to the mall tonight with a group of guys to share the gospel." (Lucy's husband Paul was the Inter-Varsity staff member when I went to the University of Central Florida in the 1980s. They now serve IV in Alabama. I remember Gabriel as a baby, and here he is out sharing the Gospel!)
Susan Shaugnessey says that since reading Ray Comfort and Kirk Cameron's materials, "I am more excited and hopeful about evangelism now than when I was saved in 1980. I have a long way to go, but I think Ray is right on with his approach."Ruth Davis writes, "Our family has been doing this [keeping the Sabbath] for a long time and I just wanted to share how much we treasure the Sabbath day and the time spent with our family and God. This day is all about building relationship and time spent with God."Gwen Simmons, who also treasures the Sabbath day, shares, "So many Christians believe that Jesus' Sacrifice abolished the Law of God, but this can't be true! He said He came "not to destroy the Law, but to fulfill it". His Sacrifice was to give us the power, through Him, to be able to keep the Law where we were not able to before without Him. So, to deny continued obedience to the Ten Commandments is, to me, to deny the fulness of Jesus' sacrifice. To live by grace doesn't mean to no longer obey God's Law. It means that PRAISE THE LORD, now we CAN obey God's Law! Hallelujah! Wow, you've got me fired up!"
Cindy Freeman encourages, "I receive your Hope Chest newsletter and am blessed by it. I especially enjoyed your last one on the law. We believe Yeshua when he said in the Sermon on the Mount in Mt. 5:17-19 that He did not come to destroy the law but to fulfill. He kept ALL the law and we are to strive to be like Him. We believe the law, or Torah, is still valid today for everyone, both Jew and "Gentile". Psalm 19 is especially beautiful...also Psalm 119 which mentions the Torah in one form or another in most of its verses. We believe you cannot throw out any of the Scripture or that any of it was "done away." His Word is eternal. His Torah is perfect. We cannot be righteous by keeping the Torah; only Yeshua can make us righteous. But after He has made us righteous through salvation, we are to live His Torah...by the Spirit, we now have it written on our hearts. Thanks for listening! Shalom y'all!"PRAYER REQUEST FOR THE KNOWLES FAMILYI haven't mentioned much about my husband Thad lately, but wanted to give you an update on what he is doing. As many of you know, he resigned from his full-time job nearly a year ago to finish up some career-related classes and see me through having baby #9. Shortly after this, his mom was diagnosed with a second case of lung cancer, so he committed to seeing her through treatment. When it became apparent that treatment was not working and she became bedridden, he became her primary caregiver. God has provided for our financial needs in many different ways, including a part-time income from his mother for overseeing her business investments. As I write, he is in Lawrence, Kansas, inspecting her rental properties. (He's been gone since Wednesday and returns this evening.) Here is the prayer request: Thad and his mom are currently trying to buy a 5 acre parcel of land to develop for a residential subdivision. Though he doesn't have a Professional Engineer certification, he worked in civil engineering for about 15 years. He has run a land development business in the past with his late father, so this is well within in his realm of capabilities. He already has contacts in banking and engineering, too. In this next day or so, the church which owns the land is presenting the potential contract to the congregation for approval. If the contract is approved, there is a due diligence clause to allow the property to go through the full feasibility and permitting process. If all of this goes through, it would provide a full-time job for Thad for the foreseeable future. He could do this from an office in his mother's home while he cares for her physical needs, too. Thad greatly prefers working in his own business and enjoys land development much more than facility management. His mother is very excited about this opportunity. Please pray for God's will to be done in this situation. Thanks for reading this, everyone! In His Sovereign Grace,Virginia Knowles
