Hello again, Hope Chest friends! Thanks for your patience as I send out my second little e-mail of the day to you.I dropped a case of Learner's Journals off at Faithful Bookshop today while they were busy packing up for the Florida home school convention here in Orlando this weekend. (www.fpea.com) I enjoyed talking with the owners, Jeff and Doreen Morgan, who have been friends of ours for a long time. I asked them if I could share the following information and prayer requests with you, and they said they would be very grateful. So here goes!Jeff and Doreen's son, Teddie, who is in his early twenties, came down with a bad case of Crohn's disease (a form of inflammatory bowel disease for which there is no known cure) over Mother's Day weekend. He had emergency surgery and has been in the hospital on heavy medication since then. Crohn's disease runs in their family, and is very difficult to treat. Teddie is not alert enough yet to even discuss the options. Please pray for a complete recovery, for wisdom in making treatment decisions, and whatever else the needs might be. Needless to say, he will not be helping out at the Faithful Bookshop booth this weekend, which is going to make things a little more hectic there. since he is the guru of the cash register system.Jeff and Doreen's married daughter, Tara Leigh Davis, and her husband Kyle, leave tomorrow night for the North Carolina home school convention, where they will have a booth. Please pray for traveling mercies for them! I think they are taking their three young children with them. They have been such faithful servants in our church, Metro Life. We always enjoy it when Kyle leads worship at youth service, or when Tara Leigh shares at a women's meeting. At the FPEA convention, Doreen, a veteran classical-style home schooler, is also doing a Friday afternoon session on teaching logic, called "Great Minds... Do Not Think Alike." She and her teenage daughter Faith will be presenting a Saturday morning session on "Mothers and Daughters: Bridging the Gap" (which is also the title of their soon-to-be-released book).Jeff is running for District 6 representative with the Florida Parent Educators Association. The vote will be taken on Thursday at the business meeting. As you can imagine, the Morgans are feeling very overwhelmed right now. They haven't gotten a whole lot of sleep lately, and have many burdens pressing on their hearts. Please pray that God will encourage and envision them, and that even in the busyness of the convention this weekend, they will come away refreshed and renewed for the tasks before them. If you see them, I'm sure they would appreciate a smile and some kind words. (You could also send them an e-mail at [email protected]) Words cannot describe how important this dear sister is to the home school community in Central Florida and nationwide. She has such a heart for families and for the Lord. I don't think most of us home school mommies realize how very much effort it takes the curriculum suppliers to go to conventions, often traveling long distances. This is their livelihood and their lifestyle! There are huge financial risks and time commitments. Yes, it's often cheaper to order through a discount mail order company (and I often do) but please remember to buy from the little guys, too, especially if you see the product at their booth and get to browse through it there. Faithful Bookshop carries quality products, including some items you probably haven't seen before. She doesn't carry something if she doesn't believe in its value. And, on a practical note, please remember their May convention special. If you print the coupon below (and yes, you MUST have the coupon to get this deal), they will give you 10% off your order on Thursday evening only. (This offer does not include Veritas Press, Institute for Excellence in Writing, and companies that do not allow discounting.) And, if you can tell them the name of one of the authors they are hosting at their booth as well as the time they will be there, you will get free sales tax on Thursday evening. Such a deal! They will have my Learner's Journals in stock, but not my other books this time.Faithful Bookshop is also offering free shipping in the month of May for Internet orders. You can check their web site at www.faithfulbookshop.com for more information.Blessings,Virginia KnowlesHere's the coupon from Faithful Bookshop:Remember to clip this coupon one per e-mail address:
