I'm a "lurker" in this forum, but I just thought I'd pop my head in on this issue! <g> I do agree that FCS has a LOT of gifts, and only carries the books that are "popular". I'm mostly a non-fiction reader <g>, and FCS will have Max Lucado's books (almost top sellers and I love his books!). BUT they won't have all of Corrie Ten Boom's, and I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anything by Amy Carmichael, and not much by Andrew Murray or George Muller.I'm fortunate to live only 30 minutes from the largest Christian bookstore in Illinois. BUT, what's even better is that I'm an Amazon Prime member - I pay something like $79 once a year (I think when they first started it, it was a lot lower, so I got a real deal the first year). I get FREE (except, as my hubby points out, it's not really free - it's just pre-paid) 2nd-Day-Air shipping. I don't have to wait til I get a $25 order together - I can just browse around, and click on a book, and then it arrives! It's GREAT, especially since I really don't like to shop. I figure it saves time and money, and I get a much better selection than I could find at any bricks-and-mortar bookstore. I can also send books anywhere, so I can surprise my two married daughters with an occasional book or CD I know they'd love, etc.Having said that, I don't buy any fiction, because I read them just one time. My favorite genre is Christian non-fiction. When I read fiction, I get it from our library, which is less than 1 mile away. Or the church library. And if our public library doesn't have it, they'll interloan it, or I can go to another suburban library and check books out on my card there too. I would have a really hard time living out in the middle of nowhere because I'd SO miss our great libraries.Having said that, I haven't been to the library in quite awhile - I've been sick for 5 weeks with a cold, ear infection, bronchitis, and debilitating sinus infection (in that order). But I have lots and lots of books that I haven't read yet. Unfortunately, I haven't felt up to reading much! 🙁 Prayers appreciated for me to get better so I can enjoy Christmas - I'm not counting on being well by T'giving, though that would be wonderful, of course!Susan, the book addict-- To unsubscribe, send ANY message to: [email protected]
