Fear of God - Part 2

Therefore, having
these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the
flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God. (2 Corinthians 7:1)
What will the fear of God cause us
to do?1. Respect the word of God. The Bible is the inspired word of God,
His love letter to us. (2 Tim. 3:16-17).2. Obey God’s word. It is a love-based
obedience. Our Father knows what is best for us.3. Honor God. In our attitudes, words and actions, we should honor God. He is
the Almighty (Rev. 4:11), the Creator of the world (Gen. 1:1), the One who upholds
the universe by His word (Hebrews 1:3), the One who caused the sun and moon to
stand still (Joshua 10:12-14), the One who delivered His people from Egypt with
great signs and wonders (Exodus 7-14), and the One who raised his Son from the
dead (John 20, Acts 2:32).4. Dedicate
ourselves to Him. He alone is worthy of our worship (Revelation 4:8-11).5. Hate sin. Proverbs 8:13 tells us "the
fear of the Lord is to hate evil."6. Respect others. Respect for God means that we will respect other people – because
God loves them.
Various proverbs stress the
importance of the proper fear of God:Proverbs
1:7 – The fear of God is the beginning of knowledge.Proverbs
15:33 - The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.Proverbs
10:27 – The fear of God prolongs life.
