"FEED SACKS"

Posted by: Crochetclara <Crochetclara@...>

How many people on this list remember the "feed sack" days? I met a
lady who has a collection of them. She also collects stories pertaining to
them. This is the story I told her.
"MY STORY ABOUT THE FEED SACKS OF YESTERYEAR"
It must have been the year of 1947. I was around ten years old. My
Mother made me the most beautiful skirt from a green print feed sack. I
thought it was the most beautiful skirt that I had ever seen. With joy in my
heart, and wings on my back, I wore it to school on a Monday morning. There
was a boy in my class that I could never like. I'll never forget..... His
name was Grady Gross... When I arrived at school on that Monday morning....
Lo and Behold..... Grady Gross had on a shirt just like my skirt. I never
wore that skirt again in fear that Grady Gross would wear his shirt the same
day. Being his "twin" for one day in my life was enough for me.
I SURE WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SOME OF THOSE FEED SACKS
TODAY. WHY CAN'T THE FEED COMPANIES GO BACK TO THAT? TODAY IT WOULDN'T
BOTHER ME AT ALL TO WEAR A SKIRT THAT LOOKED LIKE
GRADY GROSS. I WOULD LOVE TO EMBROIDERY SOME FOR DISH CLOTHS. If
any of you remember them.... write to me. I would love to hear from you.
