Okay, I am being driven crazy with this whole woodstove thing.
We finally picked out another wood stove...I really like and think we got a
good deal on it.
Okay, so now we want to build a hearth for the bottom of the stove. We are
going to cut a shape of plywood, pour sand and lay firebrick and then use
the sand as grout and put 1x2 around the edges to hold them in. Okay..that
is great. Then we have to replace all the stove pipe inside the house.
Here is my question:
we are totally within the limits of where we need to be for the space from
the back wall. However, we our current ancient stove the back wall is
getting REALLY hot. I am thinking we might still have to install some sort
of shield on the wall. Now this new stove won't be as big as this dinosaur
was and it comes with heat shields. What do you think? If so, where on
earth would I go to learn about installing a wall shield?? I have looked
all over the net and the information on woodstoves as in hearths and
firewalls are non-existant...it seems everyone has gone gas.Lori
