FOR BIGGER NEEDS
by J. Randal Matheny © 2014

For bigger needs we seek too small an answer,
Like taking a couple of aspirin for cancer;
To lance the spirit's wound and heal the soul,
We pay the godless who, themselves, are not whole,
Recline on clinical couches, unearth our past,
And look inside for answers to questions asked.
We bow to wood and stone and fashioned gold,
Disdain the Prophets, but read the pagans of old;
We search horizons, but ignore celestial light,
Bring sticks and rocks to a nuclear missile fight.
So pay me no mind if I think it rather odd
That man refuses to find his way in God.
