WHAT'S UP WITH US
Fall is coming on us so quickly this year. I really like this time
of
year! I am looking forward to some of the nice things of fall. Apples!
Pumpkins! Changing colors of the leaves!
Crisp fall weather!! I don't like what comes after fall (winter ugh!)
But
I relish this time of year while it lasts.
This month I finished putting together some neat fall ideas/projects
and links to neat pages for unit studies and fall activities like
Applehead
& Cornhusk Dolls! You will find that new page of goodies online at our
Website. Also, I put together some pages on Jotham's Journey & the new
Advent book - the sequel to Jotham's Journey - "Bartholomew's Passage".
We
are excited about that new title coming in.
I wanted to update you on my Mission Project (Josiah's Boo Boo
Salve).
I've sold a few jars. Combining my earnings with the moneys from the
youth
in our church we should have about $650.00 for our Mission Project in
South
America. One of the youth really gave her heart out for the Lord with
this
project and sold Elderberries, sunflowers and even gave half her earnings
while helping on a farm. She raised about $200.00. The Lord blessed her
in return by giving her a $50 saving bond through a drawing she entered.
Isn't God so Faithful??
Ted Chase is doing very well. He is continuing to improve from his
stroke. He driving now - which is a wonderful mental boost for him. My
cousin, Herman, is also doing well. It's been 3 ½ months since his
diagnosis of a brain tumor. He is doing very well. He had problems with
recent memory. But that is improving. He has been able to work on cars
some too. His doctors are amazed because he is doing very well and he is
still alive!! Keep praying for both Ted & Herman. I see great things
happening.
Please take time to stop by the website and see what's new. Check
out
the Fall Activity Pages!! I pray that the article this month inspires and
challenges you!! Most of all I pray that you find in Jesus everything
that
you need, hope for and desire!!
God Bless,
Joan & Rob LaCelle

SECRET TO SUCCESSFUL HOMESCHOOLING

One of the things I want more than anything else is True Success in
raising and educating my children. Yet, there is nothing that is more of
a
challenge today than raising children for the Lord. It takes constant
watch. It seems as though, if you turn your mind away from your children
for even a brief time, that something happens.
Through the years I have shared with many homeschool moms (& dads,
too) tips and helps for making homeschooling easier, less stressful, more
enjoyable and successful. There are so many wonderful ideas out there
that
will save a lot of time and stress. There are great time savers and
amazingly simple things that can make homeschooling more fun and
productive. But each day I recognize that even my most incredible tips,
thoughts and helps don't answer the heart cry of a mother that is aching
to
get the heart of her child.
More and more the Lord reveals to me that while, yes, certain ways
of teaching can make homeschooling smoother and that while there are
materials that make lessons come alive for children, if my homeschooling
success depends on "Me", I am sunk. My only hope is in recognizing how
feeble and human I am and focusing on Someone who not only created each
star in the Night Sky but also keeps them sparkling.

In Lamentations 2:19 it states: "Arise, cry out in the night: in the
beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face
of
the Lord: lift up hands toward him for the life of thy young children .
. "

God has promised us that as we come before Him and pray that He Will
answer our prayers. He will hear. Our Father gave us our children to
raise for Him. He gave us instructions in His word, but He grants us
Power
as we pray. He graciously gives us His Spirit as we ask.
I confess, there have been times I have found some great way to run
my
home/family and with a passion I started off - only to leave the Author
of
those thoughts in the dust. There is not one idea that I can put into
practice that will give me an ounce of fruitful success without the Power
and Spirit of God.
What I see happening so often, in my life and in other homeschool
families, is the doing of many good things in our own strength. We get a
glimpse of success and head off towards it. Not realizing that there is
only one way to truly realizing our goal - only by the Grace/Power of
God.
I have always prayed for my family and others. But over the last
several months, prayer has become a study of mine. I've wanted to
understand what moves God. I've wanted to experience deeply the Power
that
moved George Mueller's God. I wanted what Hudson Taylor experienced. I
wanted success! Success that comes from God's personal, productive
presence
in my daily and moment by moment life.
In the last several months my prayer life has taken on even greater
meaning to me. I am learning to stay on my knees till I experience a
sense
of God's peace. Now, I am not saying I sense I will get what I asked
for,
but that I do feel a sense of His peace. Recently, I prayed about going
somewhere. I didn't want to go if I didn't have to. But I felt I
should.
I spent a day frustrated over whether to go or not. Then I felt the Lord
ask me, "Did you ask Me whether you should go?". I hadn't! So I began
praying about it. The next morning as my prayer time drew to a close and
I
knew that I had to work on something here in the office, I was troubled
because I still didn't feel that peace one way or another as to whether
God
wanted to go or not. I felt like I should go downstairs and exercise and
continue praying. But I had work to do in the office before I started
lessons with the boys. Still, the Lord kept prompting to come yet away
with him for a few more moments. Thankfully, I did!!
I came away from praying and exercising renewed and completely at
peace that the Lord not only wanted me to go but had a purpose in my
going,
also!
I tremble at how little I have prayed about little and big things in
my life. Now, I take to the Lord each of my children very specifically.
I
talk about the areas in their personal lives that I see are beautiful
gifts
from God and share my heart aches. I thank God for the talents He has
given each of my children and pray specifically that He will use them for
His glory. I even pray that my children will have a rich hungering and
thirsting after righteousness. Now, that is no light prayer. I am a
mother of "real" children that do really naughty things sometimes.
Sometimes as I pray that prayer, I am fully aware that I am praying only
by
faith - there is nothing that would make me even consider that my child
at
that moment even considers righteousness!! But God asks me to pray
regardless of how I feel. He asks me to come to Him and pour it out. To
praise him and to weep before Him.
I bring before God so many requests that I know probably seem
simple.
A few years ago, I needed a math course for my one son who just couldn't
"see" math. He's a very hands-on, must see child. But I couldn't afford
Math U See at the time. My other son, needed videos to go with his
Algebra
course. Again I couldn't afford them. So I took these requests before
the
Lord. It didn't take long before God opened a way for me to purchase
several levels of Math U See at a price I could afford. Then the Lord
prompted someone to just "give" my son the Math videos he needed.
As I see these miracles, I wonder why I don't ask for more. I wonder
why I hold so many areas of homeschooling and family life in my own
feeble
hands, when the Omnipotent God has All Power.
Several months ago we were contacted by the IRS about moneys we had
received when Rob had his accident at work and permanently lost his job.
We had contacted the IRS in the beginning and they had told us we could
take the money. But then eight months ago out of the blue they contacted
us and not only wanted to tax us on the money but charge us interest.
This
amounted to more money than we could hope to come up with. I prayed.
Nothing changed! We wrote letters. Nothing changed! It appeared that we
had exhausted every avenue. But yet again I prayed. Through that prayer
I
felt Rob should write the IRS one last time and delineate yet again the
whole situation and their advice to us in taking the money at the time.
It
looked more than hopeless. We had called the IRS. We had written several
letters. We had sent them documentation. However, I felt God wanted us
to
write a letter. It seemed futile - yet we wrote the letter and I prayed!

We sent the letter off to the IRS sealed with fervent prayer. A few
days ago, I was praying while exercised. I felt the Lord prompting me to
pray about that IRS situation. So I did. Deeply!!! I gave it to Him
realizing that if the IRS forced us to pay that God would provide
somehow.
I didn't know it but Rob had also prayed that same morning asking God
that
that day the IRS would send the letter telling us their decision.
Later that morning as I listened to Joshua read, Rob came in the
living room and shared a letter that had just arrived from the IRS that
they had decided to accept our letter and forgive all accounts. I just
sat
there amazed! Truly that is only the Lord!! I have pondered over and
over why it is that I can have faith in God for something so large and
yet
if my child has a need I hold it to myself. The same God who holds the
answers for my finances - certainly has the answers for my children, my
husband, my marriage, my car payment, my housing needs, my family, my
health, homeschooling and anything else that is even remotely important
to
me.
As I considered how we've could've given up and resigned ourselves
that we would have to "just pay" the IRS, I tremble. We would've missed
out on God's blessing - just from not persevering in prayer. How often
have I done that in the past! How many blessings have I been robbed of
because I wasn't persistent enough in prayer? What about you? Does
something in your life seem hopeless? Before you give up - Pray again!!
I have a challenge to you today! Will you take me up on it? I hope
so!! If you do, I want to hear about it later. Will you join me today in
praying daily for your husband, each child, each family struggle and
strength, for yourself as you mother and educate your children? Will you
take time to read the Word of God and some inspiring book or two on
prayer
and journal how God answers those prayers? Will ask God to change you,
change the way you see your husband or wife and each of your children?
Will
you ask God to give you His love for each person in your home and His
eyes
for their soul needs? I believe that we will only change the course of
our lives and that of our family through prayer and action and in that
order!! Take this challenge with you for the next six months and see
what
God does for you. And I want to hear about it.
Psalm 91: 15 & 16 is a promise that I hold before the Lord: "He
shall
call upon me & I WILL answer Him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor
him. " Isaiah 65:24 says "And it shall come to pass, before they call, I
will answer; and while they are yet speaking I WILL hear." Wow! Isn't
that powerful. Before I even know what to ask He is answering! That
means
He will impress upon me what to even pray. What an awesome God!!!
I want to leave you with this beautiful quote that I have copied
into
my journal - it means so much to me - I thought it just might bless you
too:
"All things are possible to him that believeth; and whatsoever
things
we desire when we pray, if we believe that we receive them we shall have
them. This faith will penetrate the darkest cloud and bring rays of
light
and hope to the drooping, despondent soul. It is the absence of this
faith
and trust that brings perplexity, distressing fears, and surmising evil.
God will do great things for His people when they put their ENTIRE trust
in
Him!!"
Amen!! Take the Challenge and please let me know what does in
answer
to your prayers!!
