"The Hangman's Curse", which I believe is what you are reading, Cheryl, is written for older children. That may be why you don't see it as well written.
I like most of Frank Peretti's books. Try reading "This Present Darkness" and "Piercing the Darkness" for a behind-the-scenes look at what spiritual warfare may be like. Just remember that this is one man's opinion and it may or may not be what REALLY goes on. Regardless, it is very eye opening!!
I also liked "The Visitation" by Peretti. It delves into the possibility of a man who comes on the scene, performing miracles, and luring Christians away from what the Scripture teaches. Though I don't think he calls himself that, the public calls this man "Jesus". Great book!
