Perspective:-                       Hatred that should be Loved!

Is 'hatred' a bad word for Christians?  Generally we think that 'hatred' should never be in the dictionary of a Christian! He should be characterised with love and love alone. Yet the Bible reveals that true love demands hatred too!

One simple illustration of Dr. Warren W. Wiersbee explains it easily. Some school children were visiting a hospital. They found that the staffs were washing their hands often.  Out of curiosity they asked, "Why do you wash hands so often?" "We love health but hate germs" was their reply.

That is true in the spiritual realm too. If we love God we have to abhor evil. If we love the truth we ought to hate the false. We can not say yes to any thing and everything.  We can not even stay neutral.  Love for the Lord and His word should force us to take a stand and speak out.

Consider some scripture portions:-
Amos. 5:15:- "Hate evil, love good."
Rom.12:9, 10:- "Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil.  Cling to what is good."
Rev. 2:6:- "But this you have, that you hate the deeds of the Nicolations, which I also hate."

Very clear instructions indeed. The Lord wants us to love what He loves and hate what He hates. Love good, hate evil. He appreciates the Ephesians for hating the deeds of Nicolations, which could be some wrong teaching or practices prevailing there.

Of course our hatred must not be to individuals, but to evil, as stated there. We are bound to love even the enemies. Yet, when we love folks as fellow men and women, we should dislike the wickedness and the error among them. We can not be silent spectators or supporters of false in the guise of love.  Hate what God hates, Love what He loves.

Study Note:-                                    The Brazen Alter:

After entering through the gate, the first thing that the worshipper sees is the great brazen altar, with the fire blazing there, and the smoke of the sacrifice ascending as a sweet savour to God.
This altar speaks of Christ as the one by whom alone we can approach God, and by whom we can offer the sacrifice of praise, prayer and worship, Heb. 13 ; 10-15. But the altar speaks to us more of the work of our Lord Jesus Christ, which He did for us, when He suffered and died on the cross, on Golgotha's hill, in contrast to the gate and its colours, which reminded us of the many glories of the person  of our blessed Lord.

Acacia wood: In Exodus Ch. 27; 1-8, we are given the details of the construction of the brazen altar, and in verse 1 we are told that it was to be made of acacia wood, which was then overlaid with brass, or bronze. The acacia tree grew in the desert, and was a comparatively small and stunted tree. It speaks to us of the perfect, incorruptible humanity of Christ, as the one who grew up here in this waste and barren wilderness-world.

Isaiah describes the acacia tree in verse 2 and 3 of chapter 53 of his prophecy. There he says that He, (our Lord Jesus Christ,) would grow up before Him, (God, our Heavenly Father,) as a tender plant, (more correctly, sapling, a young tree,) and like a root out of a dry ground. When the Lord Jesus came into this world, it was indeed a dry ground, there was so little that God could take pleasure in, but when God looked down upon His Son, for the first time since the fall of Adam, He saw one in whom He could find all His delight.

Because of the harsh, dry, and barren environment, the desert acacia never grows to a very large size, seldom more than 12-15 feet in height, it is a humble desert tree. That is why Isaiah says; He hath neither form nor comeliness, (lordliness,) and when we shall see Him, there is no beauty that we should desire Him. The world saw no beauty in the Lord Jesus; His humility was an offence to those who looked for a conquering Messiah, a charismatic political figure who would draw the masses after him in a national revolt that would overthrow the occupying Roman power, and establish Israel once again as the head of the nations.

They said of Him, "Is not this the carpenter's son?" and they were offended in Him, Matt. 13 ; 55-58. But God found in Christ what He could find in no other. Everything that He had ever sought in man, God found it in Christ.  That is why twice, once at His baptism, and later on the Mount of Transfiguration, God declared that He found all His delight, in the person of His dear Son. The acacia wood then, reminds us of the humble, holy, incorruptible humanity of Christ, without which He could never have been our Savior.

Anecdote: -                                 Going Round and Round

Two men set out for an adventurous journey to reach a place in an unbroken wilderness in America. It was winter and a snow – storm had obliterated the path and they found it difficult to trace the way. However, they persevered and soon realized that they were not alone on the trail. They saw two tracks in front of them as left behind by two other men. They hurried on hoping to reach the destination.

Suddenly a Red Indian appeared and in broken English he said, "White man lost, going round and round." They discovered to their dismay that they had been following their own tracks going round and round!

News & Views: - 1                    Sleep depriving disastourous

Working continuously on night shifts will affect the over all performance and even lead to premature ageing. According to the experts, sleep deprivers tend to irregular habits, like skipping breakfast, eating lunch in the evening and heavy food for dinner.   That affects our health badly. Their efficiency and alertness is less. They will be prone to frequent head-ache, fatigue, and sleepiness. They could be irritable and unsociable.

Dr. N. Ramakrishnan, Director, Nithra Institute of sleep science says that 'melatonin is one chemical which controls the body cycle. The brain and body is more active when melatonin secretion is high. Its secretion is high during the day, when human being should be awake and alert.  Low melatonin secretion during the night induces sleep'.

Dr. Prithakachari a neurology specialist comments, "Nature has a rhythm of its own. There is a time for sleep, work and play."
No wonder the Bible says, 'To every thing there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven….."
Eccle.3:1—8. Going against the divine plan always leads toi chaos and destruction.

News & Views: - 2           International Brethren conference in Germany

Preparation for the 4th International Brethren Conference on Missions (IBCM4) is fast progressing in Wiedsnet Germany.  (Monday 25th June 2007 –1st July 2007)
The firs IBCM conference was held in Singapore in 1993. It was the result of discussion at the Lausanne 2 conference in Manila in 1989 and at a seminar at Regent College Vancouver in 1990.  Then the brethren from around the world gathered in Italy in 1996 and in Romania in 2003.

During the last conference in Romania there were more then 300 participants from 57 countries including 5 or 6 participants from India. This time they expect many more countries to represent and a big crowd from India!

The conference cost is 200 Euro. The expenses for visa and travel should be born by the participant. The organizers are aware that some in the third world countries need special assistance to be able to attend the conference. They are seeking funds to help at least one or two from each deserving countries

The purpose of the IBCM conferences is fourfold:-
To bring together national leaders of brethren movement from across  the world for spiritual reflection, fellowship, and renewed experience of the Lord.

To strengthen informal networking and partnership.
To encourage younger leaders, particularly from emerging countries, to learn about each other's work, challenges and opportunities.

To share ideas and methods to help churches to be effective in their mission for Christ.

Since the brethren assemblies do not have a head quarter or a centralized governing system, there are some who are not comfortable with such gathering. Yet we can hope and pray that in spite of the natural fears and apprehension, even this meeting together of the saints from every shore bring glory to the Lord and strengthen each one in their faith and service for the Lord.

More details can be had from IBCM website. http://www.ibcm.net

Worthy Quote: -                         Calamity or Chastening

"We say, 'sorrow, disaster, calamity'. God says, 'chastening' and it sounds sweet to Him though it is discord to our ears. Don't faint when you are rebuked and don't despise the chastening of the Lord. 'In your patience possess ye your souls'.
