Hi Ladies! Wanted to recommend these books to y'all. There are 3 books in the
Gresham Chronicles by Lawana Blackwell. I just read them all and they are
great! They remind me of Mitford books -- not in setting or time! These are
set in the English countryside at in the late 1800s -- but they are like
Mitford in that you get to know the community and the people and they begin
to feel like home! The books are as follows....
The Widow of Larkspur Inn
The Courtship of the Vicar's Daughter
The Dowry of Miss Lydia ClarkThere is romance in each, but there is a lot more. They are truly a picture
of life in an English village in the late 1800s. They look at overcoming so
many things -- injustice, unfaithfulness, bitterness, loneliness, and more!
I laugh a bit at the titles for they are a bit misleading. Why each book does
concern the topic mentioned int he title, there are many other story lines
going on as well. I am not sure you could pick one main thrust for each of
the books. The first one does deal mainly with the Widow - she is the central
character that all others revolve around, but the other two deal with much
more than the vicar's daughter or Miss Clark. Isn't that how life is? Lots of
things revolving around each other?I found these books as a boxed set at our local Family Christian Store for
$20. A great deal in my book! Now I am reading a series of 3 Love Inspired Books set in the community of
Dry Creek, Montana. I will have to tell you about them when I am done-- I am
on the 3rd book! Then it is on to The Truthseeker and Times and Seasons! So many books! I
would like a day to just sit and read to my heart's content! But for now, I
will grab my reading moments while being wife, Mom, daughter,
friend,......... all those hats we women wear!Hope you all have a great 4th of July!
