He Is Risen!

He Is Risen!
It was not long afterwards
that he rose into the sky and disappeared into a cloud, leaving them staring
after him. As they were straining their eyes for another glimpse, suddenly two
white-robed men were standing there among them, and said, “Men of Galilee, why
are you standing here staring at the sky? Jesus has gone away to heaven, and
some day, just as he went, he will return!” They were at the Mount of Olives
when this happened, so now they walked the half mile back to Jerusalem and held
a prayer meeting in an upstairs room of the house where they were staying. This
prayer meeting went on for several days. (Acts 1:9-15a The Living Bible)
Last Sunday, we celebrated Easter. The very next morning, most
of the world went back to normal. It was much the same after that first Easter 2,000
years ago. For most of the world, everything went on as it always had. But for
those who had walked with Jesus, life would never be normal again. God Himself
had come to earth in the form of a Man. He lived among them, walked among them,
called them to be His disciples, and taught them the ways of the kingdom. His
kingdom. And just when they were starting to understand what He was saying, He
surrendered Himself to be arrested, beaten, and crucified. They watched Him
die. They witnessed His burial, the massive stone being rolled across the
opening to the tomb. And every hope they had ever known was sealed up in that
tomb with Him. Until Easter came.
When Jesus walked into their midst
after the resurrection, everything changed. Death was defeated. The Teacher was
the long-awaited Messiah! They watched Him walk into a locked room. They saw
the nail scars in His hands and feet, the thorn prints on His brow. They
watched Him ascend into heaven. Everything was new, and anything was possible.
For you and me, Easter has changed everything. Because He
lives, we have eternal life. Eternal hope. Eternal peace. May we greet the day
with a fresh perspective. Life is new, and we will never be the same.
He is risen!
