Helmet of Salvation

In conclusion be strong—not in yourselves
but in the Lord, in the power of his boundless resource. Put on God’s complete
armour so that you can successfully resist all the devil’s methods of attack.
For our fight is not against any physical enemy: it is against organisations
and powers that are spiritual. We are up against the unseen power that controls
this dark world, and spiritual agents from the very headquarters of evil.
Therefore you must wear the whole armour of God that you may be able to resist
evil in its day of power, and that even when you have fought to a standstill
you may still stand your ground. (Ephesians 6:10-13 Phillips)
Have you ever wondered why salvation is the
helmet in the armor of God (Ephesians 6:17)? Helmets are typically worn to
protect the head, but I believe its association in our spiritual armor presents
a much deeper picture. If you were to approach a table filled with a variety of
helmets, would you be able to look at them and know what type of occupation or activity requires that type of helmet? For
example, you might distinguish the helmets for the soldier, the fireman, the bicyclist,
the football player, the horse jockey, the construction worker, or the miner.
Just as the helmets listed above signify
the identity of the wearer, salvation identifies the believer. No, it doesn’t
say, “I’m Giuseppe McClintock from Jacksonville, Florida.” Instead, it boldly
declares in the spirit realm, “I’m a born-again, blood-bought child of the Ever-living,
Ever-reigning, Never-failing, Almighty God of the Universe and no devil in hell
has a right to steal, tatter or tarnish my identity!” Your salvation was purchased on the cross,
paid for with the most costly commodity in all of creation – the precious blood
of the risen Lamb of God, Jesus Christ. If you’ve accepted Him as your Savior,
you are identified as His. Put on your helmet, soldier, and stand tall!To subscribe: <adevotionalgroup-subscribe@welovegod.org>
