Holding On To Hope

The hospital's advertisement proclaimed: "We're your source for hope and healing." The question begged to be pondered: Is man truly my source of hope? Is man my source for anything? The dictionary defines hope as "to long for with expectation of fulfillment." The same page reflects a pesky synonym for hope: trust.
The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It's our handle on what we can't see. Hebrews 11:1 The Message
Hope and trust are necessary elements for effective prayer. Hope keeps you holding tightly to the promise when the circumstances shout, "Give up! Go home! You're finished!" When hope is lost prayer becomes sadly laborious. You want to scream, "God, are you up there? God, are you going to do anything?" And the reply from heaven is, "Can you trust Me even if I don't?"
Precious heavenly Father, You are my rock in the midst of the storm. Thank You for being my Father. You are loving and gracious and kind even when the world around me is cutting and selfish and harsh. Yours is the hand that steadies my steps on this journey through life. Please keep me in Your loving embrace. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
