WHAT'S NEW AT THE KNOWLES HOUSE?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~BABY NEWS: In just a few more weeks, baby Benjamin Joseph
Knowles will be out of my belly and into my arms! Hallelujah! The
last month of pregnancy is usually the hardest, and this 9th time is
no exception. If I haven't had him by February 13 (which is three
days before my official due date) I will be induced. My body just
handles things better this way. So far, my midwife, perinatologist and endocrinologist say that everything looks healthy! I would definitely say the nesting instinct has kicked in. I'm trying to get all of the miscellaneous little details taken care of before baby arrives, but probably half of them will stay on my to-do list for a few more months! (I had been putting off packing my hospital suitcase -- until Saturday night when I had a few hours of false labor! That got me scurrying!)MY HUSBAND: In spite of not having a full-time paying job, Thad
has managed to stay quite busy taking care of his mother during her
battle with cancer, keeping track of her rental investment properties
in Kansas, and taking classes and self-study exams toward his
Facility Management certification, not to mention helping me cope
with the challenges of late pregnancy. Best of all, he has been able
to spend time getting reconnected with the children, which was a
little hard to do when he was working 60+ hours per week, and
getting home just about an hour before their bedtime! We are still
actively looking for jobs, and hope that he will either find one or
create his own sometime in March. My dear mother-in-law started
radiation treatments this week, and we pray that these will not cause
too much damage to either her esophagus or her only lung (the
other was removed in 1997).OUR CHILDREN: In a nutshell, here are some things my children
have done well lately! (Focus on the positive, right?) Thad and I have gotten brave enough to help Mary (15) learn to drive. She's pretty good! She occasionally lets me help her with her other school work, like interpreting poems for her Brit Lit course, or reviewing plans for her first major research paper on the psychological influences of advertising. I continue to be clueless about chemistry, so her friend Jordan helps her with that. Julia (13) started her second basketball season recently; we've been quite pleased with the Christian emphasis of the Upwards sports program. Rachel (12 in two weeks) is our most structured student, and really appreciates the clear assignments she and Julia receive in their Friday afternoon EXCEL classes. Both of them are practicing a Revolutionary War era play that Jill, one of their classmates, has written for our support group's Promotion Night presentations in May. Joanna (10) decided recently that she LIKES writing, and has cranked out pages and pages of fascinating historical fiction, as well as blitzing through her math book. She's also busy with a lavishly illustrated display about birds for our support group's science fair. Lydia (8) has been such a sweetie, always offering to bring me some cold water or fix me breakfast. She's made huge progress in school lately (especially in math!), and keeps the young ones entertained with her creative play ideas. Andrew (5) has founded "The Hug Club" consisting of Mom, his younger siblings, and himself. What a cuddly bunch! He's a stellar reader now, and puts this skill to use by reading to the rest of the Hug Club. Since they are using a lot more books, I moved a bookcase from my bedroom to theirs. This has cut down on the number of picture books left out in the living room. Micah (3) can tell me about stories he has heard, especially if he can go back and look at the pictures in a book. He also draws some really funky pictures of his own -- people with arms and legs branching off the head! Naomi (2 in two weeks) ) has been blasting off with her vocabulary, and amazes us all! She is in the "I do it" stage of dressing and feeding herself.The March issue of the Hope Chest will probably have the theme of
creativity, especially creative writing. I'd love to hear all of YOUR
great ideas on these subjects, so send them in!That's all for now! I should have some big baby news here in a few
weeks!Blessings,
