Hope Chest Extras and Announcements on October 20, 2007

Posted by: hopechestnews <hopechestnews@...>

Dear friends,

Here are several extras and announcements for you!  Let me know what is helpful or not!   Feel free to pass this on to friends, too.  In this message you will find information on reduced rental rates for home schoolers at a New Smyrna Beach condo, single parent scholarships for FPEA members in Florida, family building and educational web sites, the new Bella movie, a free digital frog dissection CD, inspiration and more.

I also occasionally send out local announcements for those in the Central Florida area. If you aren't already receiving these and want to be put on the list, please let me know.  If you have any prayer requests, you can send them to me at [email protected].   I have a team of other ladies who are ready to pray for you!  For more information on how this works, please visit http://www.VirginiaKnowles.com/WeArePraying

Before I go on to the announcements, I am looking for some information:

If you know of any good on-line high schools that offer credit, please send them along.  A relative is thinking of pulling her student out of public high school back to home school again, but it needs to be something that can be done pretty independently because the mom is employed.

Also, I am trying to prepare a lesson for a middle co-op class on Monday.  Last week I introduced the learning process facets of Observation, Understanding/Memory, and Response.  This week I want to go more in-depth on Observation, and then do the other two on following weeks.  If any of you have any ideas on how we can become better at observation (or the other stages of learning), please send them to me as soon as possible!  And yes, I plan to include these learning process lessons in a future Hope Chest.

Blessings,
Virginia Knowles

OK, here are the announcements!

Becky Kelly's condo in New Smyrna Beach (Florida) is still available at a reduced rate for home school and ministry families who need a getaway!  The rentals are $475 per week (that rate not available on holidays). You can visit the web site at http://www.kellyskondo.com or call 407-321-8313 to make your reservations.  Our family has stayed there twice and we love this condo!  It's right across from the beach and very close to a grocery store!  There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms upstairs, and a kitchen, dining room, living room (with sofa beds) and bathroom downstairs.

For those who live in Florida, Vikki Goedmakers of the Florida Parent Educators Association sent this along:
Hi everyone, I wanted to send out a reminder that the FPEA offers single parent scholarships.  I would appreciate it greatly if you all would make sure that the word got out.  I feel that it is so important that we stand behind our single parents.  There are a great deal out there that do not know about the single parent scholarship fund.  We are blessed that Rainbow Resources enable us to give away one thousand dollars a month in scholarships.  I personally oversee this and have had the pleasure of speaking to these parents and have had to opportunity to meet quite a few of them at convention.  I cannot tell you what a difference this had made for these parents...that they are able to purchase the educational materials of their choosing.  It is an empowering experience for them.  So many have very little control over their day to day situations but they are enable to educate their children and this just a small part of helping them but one that make s a vast difference in their lives.  Please get the word out.  Thank you all for your time. Blessings, Vikki Goedmakers, FPEA District 12 Director/TreasurerFPEA Single Parent Scholarship Director   [email protected]

Cat Staat passed this along: Free Digital Frog 2 CD   "The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is giving away free educational CD-ROMs for Digital Frog.  For those of you who don't want to dissect, or just for help in your dissection, you might want to order this.  Here is a link to the details: http://support.pcrm.org/site/PageServer?pagename=dissalt_digital_frog2  Please note that I don't know anything about the organization.

Cat also sent this YouTube video of a toddler who can point to dozens of countries on a world map.  Amazing and too cute!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r43yCiKlbCo

Here is another goodie from Cat:

Beatitudes For Homemakers
 by Ella May Miller

Blessed is she whose daily tasks are a work of love; for her willing hands and happy heart transform duty into joyous service to all her family and God.

Blessed is she who opens the door to welcome both stranger and well-loved friends; for gracious hospitality is a test of brotherly love.

Blessed is she who meads both stockings and broken toys and broken hearts; for her understanding is a balm to her husband and children.

Blessed is she who scours and scrubs; for well she knows that cleanliness is one expression of godliness.

Blessed is she whom children love; for the love of a child is of greater value than fortune or fame.

Blessed is she who sings in her work; for music lightens the heaviest load and brightens the dullest chore.

Blessed is she who dusts away doubt and fear and sweeps all the cobwebs of confusion; for her faith will triumph over all adversity.

Blessed is she who serves laughter and smiles with every meal; for her cheerfulness is an aid to mental and physical digestion.

Blessed is she who introduces Jesus Christ to her children; for Godly sons and daughters shall be her reward.

Blessed is she who preserves the sacredness of the Christian home; for hers is a divine trust that crowns her with dignity.
