Hope Chest Home School Extras and Announcements

Posted by: homenews <homenews@...>

Dear Hope Chest readers,

Thanks for your patience.  I was going to send the September/October issue yesterday, but I feel like there's something "missing" from it.  I will try to send it out later this week.

Meanwhile, a few people have asked me to send out little requests that I wouldn't ordinarily bury in the depths of the newsletter newsletter, so here goes:

A SHORT UPDATE FROM OUR HOUSE
HOLY LAND EXPERIENCE FREE ON SEPTEMBER 11
WIDOWED MOM SEEKS CURRICULUM, HOUSING, JOB, ADVICE
BEACH CONDO GETAWAY IN NEW SMYRNA BEACH, FLORIDA
VAL HALLORAN'S SINGER/SONGWRITER WEBSITE
HOME SCHOOL MOM INJURED IN TRUCK ACCIDENT
UPDATE ON THE BURNHAM FAMILY

A SHORT UPDATE FROM OUR HOUSE

I'll save most of the good stuff for the newsletter, but I do ask for prayer for our plumbing.  Our kitchen sink backed up yesterday just before dinner.  Thad took off the sink trap to see if there was just a clog there, but now he thinks it is something way down the line.  We even had sand back up into the sink today, and none of us recalls putting any of it INTO the sink, so it's coming from somewhere else!   It looks like it will be expensive.  Please pray for wisdom on what to do next!   Any hints, folks?

I'm feeling a little better with the morning sickness, and managed to go several days without feeling bad.  Thank you to all who sent tips for what to do.  So far, ginger snap cookies, and a little lemon juice in water have helped tremendously.

I know there are many of you out there struggling with various problems in your families, health, finances, home schooling, etc.   Please know that you are not alone.  Psalm 30:5 says, "Weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning."  This morning I was battling a case of self-pity, but when I dragged myself, went to church and started singing the worship music, that ugly old self-pity rolled right away!  I think it is impossible to cling to negative thinking when you are focused on praising God!  It doesn't mean that the problems go away.  It just puts them in their proper perspective, and puts you in a position to get divine wisdom for solving them.  That's a good place to be!

HOLY LAND EXPERIENCE FREE ON SEPTEMBER 11

The Holy Land Experience in Orlando, Florida, will have free admission on September 11.  The new Scriptorium Bible museum just opened a few weeks ago, so this is a "can't miss" opportunity for those who live close enough or are willing to travel.  The park is open from 10am - 7pm that day.   Thad and I went last October and loved it. Here is the web site:

WIDOWED MOM SEEKS CURRICULUM, HOUSING, JOB, ADVICE

Deborah, a mom in our home school support group, was recently widowed.  She is seeking to share Abeka video programs for first and third grades. Also, she requests prayers for and information on earning an income at home and affordable housing in Orlando, FL area by November.  Deborah does not have e-mail, and I don't feel right about giving out her home address or phone number for security reasons, so please e-mail any responses to me and I will pass them to her.   I think she has a master's degree in art.

HOME SCHOOL MOM INJURED IN TRUCK ACCIDENT
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A month or so ago, I asked one of our readers, Joeth, about her mercy ministry.  For the past several years, she has been assembling containers (some of them HUGE) of items to missionaries, orphanages, refugee camps, and other places all around the world.  I can only imagine the hundreds and thousands of lives that have been blessed by her hard work.
One of her friends recently e-mailed and said that Joeth had been driving a U--Haul type truck for the ministry when she was in a bad accident.  She was airlifted to Duke Hospital with serious leg injuries, and will be immobile at least until her baby is born in December.   Friends are providing meals, and her mother will be staying with the family as much as possible while she recuperates in a hospital bed in the living room, but there is a long road ahead.  There may be more surgery soon.
Please pray for the family.  Some of her children had injuries also.  September 17 will be especially difficult, as she has OB and ortho appointments at Duke, and will be away from home all day.
UPDATE ON THE BURNHAM FAMILY
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Friends in Rose Hill, Kansas, are building a free house for widowed missionary Gracia Burnham and her three children.  Gracia will be home schooling her youngest child while working on a book about her year long captivity in the Philippines.  (For those who hadn't heard the news, she and her husband Martin, a missionary pilot, were hostages of a militant Muslim group, the Abu Sayyaf.  Martin was martyred in early June during the rescue.)

I still have several copies of Salt and Light, a poetry anthology in honor of the Burnhams, available for $6 plus shipping.  Proceeds are being donated to the Burnham fund for missionary aviation.  Please e-mail me if you are interested, to make sure I still have these in stock.  I don't plan to reprint once these are gone.
