How Death Dies EARLY DRAFT

Posted by: pastorbob <pastorbob@...>

I have a ways to go on this….and need to narrow the focus…...any illustrations, ideas or wisdom?    Thanks

Brokenness is the beginning of New Life.  Killing Death

How Death Dies.

Luke 15:11-24  "And he said, "There was a man who had two sons.  And the younger of them said to his father, 'Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.' And he divided his property between them.  Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living.  And when he had spent everything, a severe famine arose in that country, and he began to be in need.  So he went and hired himself out to* one of the citizens of that country, who sent him into his fields to feed pigs.  And he was longing to be fed with the pods that the pigs ate, and no one gave him anything.  "But when her came to himself, he said, 'How many of my father's hired servants have more than enough bread, but I perish here with hunger!  I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, "Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.  I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants."'  And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.  And the son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.' But the father said to his servants, 'Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.  And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate.  For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.' And they began to celebrate."   ESV

We are a hard people.

We are hardened inside our own shell and it is HARD for anyone to work their way into our shell.

We are prideful and arrogant.

We want our way on our time.

We are going to do what we want to do reguardless of who it hurts, even if it is us that is hurt the most.

We will often "stick to our guns" or ride our habits all the way down the proverbial drain, all the way to rock bottom.

  1. We will leave God, leave His church and leave our relationships with God and His church behind because of some personal reason.

    4. I didn't like this sermon or that song
  2. We allow our sin to separate us from God as we seek to fulfill the desires of our flesh
    1. We don't see the need to serve God or follow His Word
    2. We want to go "enjoy life"
    3. We think our life is all about us
  3. We need to remember that, much like the Prodigal Brother, we do not have to physically leave to have separation from the Father
    1. Staying put/attending church IS NOT ENOUGH
    2. Serving the father/Serving God IS NOT ENOUGH

    3. Yield it all to God
  2. We call this brokenness
    1. It begins by God revealing to us that we are spiritually broken

                                                  i.      Wisdom and understanding where we really stand in GODS VIEW not ours or the worlds view.
