Dear Hope Chest friends,I wanted to pass along updated information on tornado victims in the Central Florida home school community. I think that all of this is current and accurate, but I don't personally know the families so I may not have it 100%. Both families have been members of the CHEC home school support group. I spoke at the CHEC meeting last October, so I am acquainted with the leader, Robin Stephenson. Some of this information also came from Bill and Merilee Clifton, who know the Sluss family from the Science Partners classes (http://www.sciencepartners.net/) that the Cliftons teach.Mike and Melinda Sluss, who lived in the Lake Mack area, both died in the tornado. You can read the obituary at this link:http://www.legacy.com/orlandosentinel/DeathNotices.asp?Page=Lifestory&PersonId=86364622 Their 14 year old son, Aaron, has been in the hospital (I think he is still there, but not sure) and has had several surgeries. He is expected to be fine physically, and will live and home school with another family. Friends and family are working with an attorney to deal with financial and legal arrangements. The family's house is totally gone. For those who are interested in making a financial contribution, a trust fund for Aaron has been set up at Covenant Community Church. The address is 1255 Glen Royal Terrace, DeLand, FL 32720. Robin Stephenson has assured me that Pastor David Shaw is very reliable and that the money will be used wisely.Jerry and Jo-Ellen Smith and their daughter Laura lost their home and cars in the tornado. They are currently trying to find an affordable rental home in the DeLand area. Robin Stephenson says, "Pray that we can find someone who has rental property in DeLand that will want to bless the Smiths." If people want to send them notes and or donations they can be reached at: Jerry & Jo-Ellen Smith, c/o Kathy Smith, 1535 War Admiral Dr., DeLand, FL 32724.Thank you so much for praying for these families.Blessings,Virginia Knowles-- To subscribe, send ANY message to: [email protected] To unsubscribe, send ANY message to: [email protected] Visit my web site at www://thehopechest.net
