HURRICANE Impacts STREET MINISTRY - Galveston
-Andrew Strom.

According to the latest data, Hurricane Ike is likely to hit
Galveston, Texas head-on within a matter of hours. The "storm
surge" (wall of water) from the hurricane is projected to be 20 feet
high - with 40 foot waves on top of that. Remember, Galveston
Island was virtually wiped out with 6000 dead from a similar
hurricane 100 years ago. This time thankfully it has been mostly
evacuated.

My old friend Darren Smith has a wonderful street ministry and
outreach to the homeless based in Galveston. Darren did
wonderful effective work in neighboring states after Katrina, and
I know he will do the same after this storm. If you want to support
or join with anyone in the wake of this disaster, Darren's ministry
is one that I would highly recommend. Here is the Update that
they just sent out:

"Hello everyone,
I just wanted to send out a quick note letting you know that
Streetscape Ministries has evacuated Galveston Island until
hurricane Ike makes landfall. One of our participants chose to stay
at the Ministry house; he is a native of the island and did not want
to leave.  Please keep David in your prayers. Also, Bro. Darren
will be going in to the Island as soon as he is allowed back. He
will be assessing the needs, and we will be using the Ministry
house as base-camp for the relief effort.  Anyone wanting or able
to help please contact me at 936-269-9224 and I will be glad to
assist you with what to do or what the needs are.

"Needless to say, the street outreach ministry has been canceled
for this Saturday morning.  Please at this time prayerfully consider
how you may contribute to this relief effort and as always please
continue to keep us all in your prayers.

"Thank you for all you have done in allowing this ministry to
continue being the hands and feet of Jesus Christ." [end quote]

My friends - Darren did not ask me to do this at all, but please
consider donating to their ministry ('Streetscape') at this time.
Here is their web-page for donations:

Also, please keep them in your prayers. This is going to be rough.

God bless you all.

Andrew Strom.
