I'm Not Ashamed
by Jeff A. JenkinsThe Apostle Paul was embarking on a discussion
concerning the wickedness that was prevalent in the
world of his day.In Romans 1:18-32, he paints a vivid picture of a world
gone wild. The world in our time is not unlike the
world of Paul's day. Before this discussion, Paul talks
about his desire to proclaim the Word of God."For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the
power of God for salvation to everyone who believes..."
(Romans 1:16).The word for gospel means "good news." The good news
has the power to save. The good news is God's message
of love and salvation to a lost, sinful world (John
3:16; Romans 5:8).Paul reminds us that in this good news the
righteousness of God is revealed. When we gather around the Lord's table each week we are
not only remembering what our Lord did for us at
Calvary (Luke 22:17-20).We are also proclaiming the good news. "For as often as
you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the
Lord's death until He comes" (1 Corinthians 11:26).This is the reason we must examine ourselves every time
we eat the Lord's supper (1 Corinthians 11:28).It would be wonderful if every Christian could say with
Paul that we are not ashamed to proclaim the good news.We should not be ashamed to proclaim the good news
through our teaching or through our life. We must live
our lives in such a way that says to the world, "we are
not ashamed."When we gather each week around the Lord's table we are
saying to one another and to the world, "I am not
ashamed" of my Savior.----
