I'm okay, You're okay

I'm okay, You're okay
I. Introduction
A. We like it when things go along smooth and peaceful.
1. No one likes a car with a bumpy ride.
2. Getting along with a contentious person is not pleasant
a) (Prov 21:19) a contentious and angry woman
(Prov 27:15) A continual dropping on a rainy day
b) (Prov 26:21) Contentious man, wood on the fire
3. So we all like things to go along smoothly.B. But dealing with God is not always peaceful.
1. (Matt 10:21,34-39) Not always peace even within one's family
2. (Matt 16:24-5) Required even to deny one's own life
3. We cannot have peace with God and go our own way.C. When people want their own way, there can be no peace with God
1. Israel wanted this when they decided to trust in their
alliances with powerful neighbors, not trust in God2. (Isa 30:7-13) They wanted to trust in Egypt.
They wanted "I'm okay, You're okay" taught.3. God told them this desire would result in destruction.
D. Isn't it the same way today about God's will, and our desires?
--This will be the thought we need to focus on today. What are some "I'm okay, You're okay" people may want to hear today?
II. Some "I'm okay, You're okay" people want to hear today.
A. Everybody's OK like they are.
1. Examples of this thinking:
a) "There's good people in all churches, all are going to
Heaven"
b) "If a person is a good person, surely he won't be lost".
c) "God didn't make no junk!"
d) "God is a loving God, He wouldn't punish anyone."
e) "Don't try to proselyte people out of other faiths."2. The truth is:
a) We all started out OK (Matt 18:1-3)
b) But--WE SINNED (Rom 7:7-10 evil desire, Rom 3:23 all)
c) People are heading for Hell NOT because they haven't heard
the truth but because they HAVE SINNED!
d) (Eccl 7:29) Made upright, but now many devices.
e) The ONLY way to be free from sin is in Christ. (Jn 14:6)3. There are many things that will not substitute for being in
Christ
a) A "good feeling" about what you are doing.
How did Nadab and Abihu feel about their worship?
b) Confidence in a capable preacher. (Jer 17:5)cursed!
c) A popular belief (Matt 7:13-14)
d) A way that seems right to self (Prov 14:12)seemeth right
e) NONE OF THESE WAYS WILL SAVE UNLESS THEY ARE IN OBEDIENCE
TO CHRIST
(1) (Heb 5:8-9) Author of Et. Salv. to the OBEDIENT
(2) (II JN 9-11) Cannot transgress the doctrine of Christ
f) NO Belief outside the Lord's church is as careful as they
need to be with the scriptures! All have creeds, synods,
catechisms, confessions, councils, feelings, SOMETHING...B. Young people need to "sow their wild oats".
1. (Eccl 12:1-7) You MUST obey before life's vigor fails you
2. There are many examples of godly people at a young age in the
Bible.a) Joseph--a teenager when sold into Egypt (Gen 37:2) 17
b) David--but a youth when he killed Goliath with only faith
and a sling (I Sam 17:33) But a youth
c) Daniel--Chose to eat right and obey God rather than do the
king's bidding (Dan 1:3-5) as a child
d) Josiah--the "child king" who obeyed God's word in a wicked
time (II Ki 22:1-2)
e) Jesus, at 12--about His Father's business (Lk 2:42-50)
f) Timothy, a youthful preacher (I Tim 4:12) despise youth3. We must be concerned WHILE WE ARE YOUNG that we sow the right
seed---Wild oats can bring forth bitter fruit.
(Gal 6:7-9) You SHALL reap what you sow. Take heed.4. Nowhere in the Bible is concession given for irresponsibility
simply because a person used youth as an excuse5. There are many enticements in this world today to allure your
hearts away from serving God.a) There are drugs, alcohol, allurements which promise a quick
"fix" for sorrow, pain, trouble, hurt.
b) There are the blatant lifestyles of many who defy the word
of God and His authority--blasphemers, homosexuals,
despisers of the righteous, irresponsible people
c) There are the activities which the world engages in which
entice us to sin and become sin in themselves-- partying,
drinking, dancing, mixed swimming,--where the will of the
majority who are worldly may sweep away the restrictions we
know Christians should place on their conduct.6. DON'T LISTEN--DON'T COMPROMISE--DON'T SIN! Is anything like
this worth your Eternal soul? Would you go to Hell gladly
just so you could do these things? SURELY NOT!C. There's not much to being a Christian.
1. There's not much to BECOMING a Christian
a) Just bow down and say a little prayer "Lord Jesus, I accept
you as my personal savior"...
b) "Come down and sign the decision card"
c) "Lay your hand on the radio as a point of contact and pray"
d) Nothing to do--just something to think and feel!
e) NONE OF THESE HAS TOUCHED THE BLOOD OF CHRIST! NOT ONE!2. In the Bible they were told more.
a) (Acts 16:30-31) Believe on Christ
b) (Acts 16:32-) Repent and be baptized (Acts 2:38) Same
c) (Acts 8:35-7) Confess before baptism (Rom 10:9-10)
d) (Acts 22:16) Wash away sins in baptism
e) HERE IS WHERE THE BLOOD IS FOUND.
3. There's not much to living a Christian life.a) Once you're saved you can't ever be lost
b) The Christian has no problem with sin or temptation.
c) You can live anyway you want, and God only sees the
righteousness of Christ, not your sin.
d) (Rom 3:8) Can we do evil that good may come? NO
e) (Rom 6:1) Can we continue in sin under grace? NO
f) Such thinking introduces laxness in our lives in:
(1) Attendance to services (Heb 10:25)
(2) Bible Study (I Tim 13-16)
(3) Avoiding sinful enticements (II Tim 2:22)
(4) Careful speech (Eph 4:25-29)
(5) Modest dress (I Tim 2:9) modest apparel
Not to draw attention to themselves for a look of
envy OR a look of lust or desire.
(6) Responsibility for our conduct (II Cor. 5:10)III. Conclusion
A. What is the result of listening to "I'm okay, You're okay"
1. We can be satisfied and feel good about ourselves
2. We can refuse to feel guilty even when we should.
3. We can fool ourselves into thinking God views things just like
we do
4. We will go to Hell when we are judged.B. Shouldn't we be more concerned about the truth?
(Matt 5:6) HUNGER AND THIRST after righteousness.
--THESE shall be blessed.C. I hope these things are not the "I'm okay, You're okay" some want, but the
truth which we all need. What are you going to do about it?**************************
