by J. Randal Matheny © 2014In life we find what we seek,
No more, no less,
Be it good or bad, the strong or weak,
To curse or bless,
For failure or success.Within the world we reach
To grasp desire,
Or else we shrink with fear, in each
Is ash or fire;
We hide or else aspire.To all both time and tide
Turn heart and head;
With peace we take it all in stride,
Or live in dread
Of losing broth and bread.How best should we respond
To daily trial?
To know that God, in life beyond,
This earthly mile,
Will make it all worthwhile.Beyond the door of death
We hope for peace
And sense and justice, all in a breath!
Where strivings cease
And sight and sound increase.Such faith can here sustain
The laboring hand,
Bring purpose to our present pain,
In a sinking land
Make victors firmly stand.— ‹‹«»›› —
