Indifferent or Enthusiastic?

This note is especially for professing Christians.
May the Lord stir our hearts.

Revelation 3:1,16:  “Thou hast a name that thou livest
but art dead...So then, because thou art lukewarm, and
neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.”

Are we just going through the motions, or are we
truly alive?  Do we have a red-hot love for Christ and
souls, or are we lukewarm?  Souls all around are
heading for Hell.  Do we notice?  How do we see them?

What about our prayers?  Are they just ritual?
Prayer is a vital connection between our soul and God,
a means of communication and communion. It is "the
effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man" that
"availeth much".

Church attendance ought to be more than a routine, or
a social function. Yes, it is where we have hearty, healthy
fellowship with the saints (the holy people); but primarily,
it is where we go to worship God and give Him our full
attention.

Jesus Christ has promised to meet with us in a special
way, if we "gather together in" His "name".  Which means
that it must be for His purposes not ours.  It is a positive
endeavor. We do not simply "absorb" spiritual life by some
mystical osmosis; but we gain spiritually as we are engaged
in "spiritual calisthenics", if you please.

Yes, worship is not just an attitude, but also an
activity! We must actively "draw nigh to God", if we
would experience His drawing near to us.

What about the preaching?  For many it's just sermon
tasting; they can take it or leave it.  Do we listen with
a pick and choose attitude?  We ought rather to come like
baby birds with our mouths wide open for each and every
morsel of Divine Truth, despising "not prophesying", but
proving "all things" and holding "fast that which is good".

So, how are we doing?  Are we indifferent or are we
enthusiastic about the things that really matter?

Yours In Christ,
Martin Overfield
