The first and most obvious reason we call (God) “Father” is because that is what He wants to be called. The first person of the Trinity has many names – Almighty One, Creator, Most High, Holy Holy Holy, the Rock, the Great I Am. But when Jesus came to tear away the veil so we could look directly into the heart of God, He revealed God as “Father.” Jesus used the word “Father” more than any other description or name for God. And He taught us to address God in the same way: “Our Father who art in heaven…” “Father” is God’s self-revealed designation.

Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands / Instruments of Change workbook

Dear Hope Chest readers,
 
Deb Definbaugh of the Timberdoodle Company just e-mailed and asked where I got the workbooks I mentioned in the last Hope Chest addendum.  That's when I realized that I got the titles and author just a teeny bit twisted up. 
 
The regular book is called Instruments in the Redeemer's Hands: People in Need of Change Helping People in Need of Change.  It is by Paul David Tripp, author of Age of Opportunity, not by his brother Tedd Tripp, who is the author of the child-rearing classic Shepherding a Child's Heart.  The accompanying workbook, also by Paul David Tripp, is called Instruments of Change: How God Can Use You to Help People Grow.  Both the book and workbook are published by Resources for Changing Lives, a ministry of the Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation. 
 
Unfortunately, the workbook (Instruments of Change) is not available for individual purchase.  It can only be ordered for group use by leaders trained in the Changing Lives Ministries materials.  If this is something that would interest your church leaders, they can call Joseph at 215-884-7676, extension 136.  More introductory information is available at http://ccef.org/discipleship.asp.
