Invited to Dance

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the
sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me
fast. Psalm 139:9-10 NIVIt is such a joy when God, through His Holy Spirit, unveils something
entirely new in a scripture we've read too many times to count. With
me, He occasionally does so through a vision - a clear but fleeting
picture seen only with the eyes of the spirit. So was the case with
this scripture during a women's retreat a few months ago. Call me a
hopeless romantic, but what I saw still makes my spirit leap with joy.A handsome man in a black tuxedo with tails stood before a beautiful
lady dressed in an elegant ball gown. As the music began to play, he
held out his left hand. She stepped close to him and placed her right
hand over his. His right hand went to the small of her back and
tenderly pulled her close. Her left hand rested trustingly on his right
shoulder, and they began to dance. While the basic image is of a couple preparing for a ballroom dance,
this is actually a picture of Christ and His Bride, the church. He
stretches forth His hand and woos her to Himself; she answers the call
of her Beloved and places her hand in His. With loving affection, He
draws her into a tender embrace. One look into His eyes and nothing
else matters, for in them she sees a love more intense yet selfless than
any earthly love could be. Her life with Him becomes a dance, filled
with twists and turns, lifts and dips, ups and downs, but always under
the unmistakable guidance of His watchful care.If His left hand is guiding her, whose responsibility is it to know and
anticipate the next move? It is His. If His right hand holds her
securely, what happens if she stumbles? He will catch her. Surrounded
by His strength, has she anything to fear? Not as long as she keeps her
eyes upon her Bridegroom. Which is more precious: the dance itself, or
the immeasurable magnificence of the Bridegroom? Yet how often do we
focus on the dance and take our eyes off of our Beloved? Oh my friend,
set your gaze upon the beauty of the Lord, and fall in love with your
Bridegroom all over again. No words can describe You, Jesus. You are my highest desire, the Object
of my affection. I blow kisses to You, my Beloved. How my heart longs
hard after You, to behold You in Your glory, to see the beauty of Your
face. Come quickly, Lord Jesus. Amen.To subscribe: <adevotionalgroup-subscribe@welovegod.org>
