'Amend the Scriptures'!

N.T.K

In response to an international religious controversy one writer wrote to a news paper, "Why don't you change this age old scriptures'. His argument is, if we can amend the constitution to suit to the present need, why not religious statutes written many centuries ago. He not only called upon that particular community to change their law, but all the faiths to modify the religious rulings to adjust with the modern world. What should be a Christian answer to this logic?

Can we change the word of God according to the times? Or do we think that the Bible is irrelevant and illogic for the present age?  Christian believers must be clear about these questions lest we be confused by the variety of ideologies.

The Bible says it emphatically;

"Forever, oh Lord, Your word is settled in heaven." Psal.119:89

"For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one title will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled." Matt.5:18.

"…If any one adds to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this book; and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part from the book of Life, from the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book." Rev. 18: 19.

There are plenty of other scripture portions that categorically forbid any alteration but assert that the Bible is the inspired, inerrant and infallible word of God. 2Timo.3:16, 17. Such unchanging, reliable and profitable word of God needs no modification at all.

The uniqueness of the Bible has been proved beyond any doubt. Written in a span of 1500 years by around 40 authors from diverse land and background is seen as one book today. There is only one answer to such wonderful formation, the eternal God controlled and guided these authors as they wrote for their generation.

We see rapid changes taking place in many technical field and as a result technical books are being updated but no such changes becomes necessary for the Bible for it is from God who knows from the beginning to the end. At the same time, we can notice that present day scientific discoveries are recorded in the bible centuries ago by unlearned men of God. Yes there are neither errors nor contradictions in the word of God.

Bible stands alone in its effect in the lives of people. In spite of all the advancement in every other field, there is no other message than the gospel of the bible that affects the heart and mind of man. Millions all over the world find meaning and fulfillment for their life in this book. It gives them peace, comfort and satisfaction that the world can never give.

Today's only crisis is that the present generation has gone away from the word of God and ended up in untold problems. It is high time that we value the book and come back to the Bible.
Yes, God of the Bible never compel any one to follow His statutes. He has given a free will to every man to choose for himself. A conscious decision to follow the Lord Jesus Christ who is the sum and substance of the Bible will lead one to all the blessings of the heavenly places. That will change not only his life and family even the entire society.

Brief Article

Touch the Heart of God

Shawn Abigail

PI take some pleasure when I receive a compliment, but if you really want to see me happy spend some time telling me about how fine a child my son is (or my daughters for that matter).
So it is with the Triune God. We acknowledge the person and work of the Father, but if you really want to touch the Father's heart, tell Him what He already knows about His Son.

Let's think about this further. There is nothing about my son that you can tell me that I don't already know. I know more about his character and virtues and worth than you will ever
know. So your comments about my son don't need to be original in order to touch my heart. You only have to acknowledge what you have seen to be true.
In addition, your comments must be sincere. If you really don't know my son but say all sorts
of flattering things about him, it won't do my heart any good. They are empty words unless
they are based on your personal knowledge of him. There is one exception to this. When I
give testimony about my son and you accept my testimony at face value, then it also touches
my heart when you value what I have said about my son.

There are also some other matters I should mention. I would be very happy for you to spontaneously say a gracious word about my son as we pass in the hall, but it would touch
my heart even more if you arranged for us to get together specifically so you could tell me how much you appreciate my son's character and deeds. Oh I know you might want to
borrow some of my tools or get a hand putting up that shed, but if you could just put aside some time to tell me about my son without bringing up any other matters, it would mean so
much to me.

So it is with the Father in Heaven. Worship is when we are amazed by God, when we are completely taken up by the person of the Lord Jesus Christ, and when we express back to
the Father what we know to be true about the Son through the leading of the Spirit. It can sometimes be emotionally satisfying; sometimes emotionally draining, and sometimes the
emotions have little to do with it. Really, worship is not about having my heart touched; it's about touching God's heart when we acknowledge the perfections of the Son.

Study Note

The outer veil of the Tabernacle

Charles E. Wigg

Having washed his hands and feet, the priest was then to enter the Holy Place to do his service there. To do this, he had to pass through the outer veil, which was made of the same materials as the gate, using the same colours, Ex. 26; 36-37.

This veil again speaks of Christ, as the only one through whom we can approach into the presence of God. The colours as in the gate set forth the different glories of Christ, i.e. Blue, Son of God, Purple, Son of David, Scarlet, Son of Man, Linen, the Perfect Servant. As you pass through a curtain it tends to cling to you, unless it is brushed aside. Thus as the priest entered the Holy Place he was literally clothed in the beautiful colours of the curtain, or veil. Eph. 2;18 tells us that "Through Him we both,(Jew and Gentile), have access by one Spirit to the Father", and it is through Him alone that we can enter there. But as we do, we enter as those who are clothed in His worth and excellence, taken into favour, "in the beloved",
Eph.1;6, for we have become the "righteousness of God in Him", 2cor.5;21.

The pillars of the veil:

This beautiful curtain was hung from 5 pillars of acacia wood, that were overlaid with gold, and upheld by hooks of gold, but the pillars stood in sockets of bronze. The acacia wood, as we have seen, and will see continually in these notes, represent the incorruptible, perfect, yet humble manhood of Christ, but the Gold represents His deity, for though He was truly Man, yet He was, and ever is , truly God. The Hebrew word for gold, means that which shines, as though there was ever a mystery about the precious metal. There is a mystery about the Person of Christ, that human mind will never understand. The Lord Jesus said the "no one knows the Son but the Father",
Matt.11;27, showing us that in His person He is so great that His essence and being, no man can know, Him, only the Father. He the Word who is God, became flesh, and dwelt amongst us, John, 1;1 and 14. He is God, "manifest in flesh,
1Tim.3;16, and is the "Effulgence of His glory, the express image of his person, Heb.1;3.

There were 5 pillars, again reminding of His human weakness, for He was crucified in weakness, 2Cor,13;4, and they stood in sockets of bronze, showing us that all that He is could only be made available to us through His sufferings and death.

Anecdote

Condemnation certain

After World War 1, 900 German soldiers who had violated international law were summoned to appear before the World Court. Their condemnation was certain. In a dramatic move, however, the former crown prince of Germany volunteered to be their substitute. His offer included taking upon himself both the accusation against them and their penalty. This act, thought most noble, was impractical. Although he was royalty, he did not have in his own person the value of the 900.

There is another Prince who took upon Himself the judgment due the entire human race. Unlike that German leader, He is not implicated in any evil. Because of His sinless humanity, He could be "deliver4ed for our offenses." Because of His deity, He could be "raised again for our justification" (
Rom.4:25). He was able to pay in full the ransom demanded by god's holy law, because in Him was the intrinsic worth needed to provide salvation. Yes, the father laid upon His sinless Son the iniquity of us all.

Leadership Training & Prophecy Conference in Jharkhand

Tatanagar Assembly is arranging a leadership training and prophecy conference for leaders and full time evangelists in Bihar and Jharkand.  From November 27—30 2006.

Since 1995 this assembly conducts short term bible School for new believers from this tribal area. More than hundred new believers have already got basic bible teaching and training from this school. And around 50 of them are in full time ministry among their own people.

It is a matter to praise God for the wonderful work the Lord is doing in this land which was known as the 'grave yard of missions'.  It pleased the Lord to save and separate many from this tribal state.  In spite of all the oppositions they are growing spiritually and numerically.

This conference is arranged in connection with the passing out of the present batch. Dr. Koshy Mathew Mumbai will deal with Biblical prophecy and other brethren will take on many other practical issues connected with leadership.

Sincere prayers of the saints will surely make this effort a great blessing for the Lord's work in Jharkand and Bihar.
