Just a Closer Walk With Thee
by Jeff A. JenkinsThe author of the old Gospel song (written probably in
the 1930's), that has touched the lives of millions,
is unknown. The sentiments in the song are very well
known to Christians around the world.Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
I am weak, but Thou art strong,
Jesus, keep me from all wrong,
I'll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.
Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.
When my feeble life is o'er,
Time for me will be no more,
Guide me gently, safely o'er
To Thy kingdom's shore, to Thy shore. The Bible often pictures our Christian life as a
journey. The Apostle whom Jesus loved said, "If we walk
in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship
with one another and the blood of Christ cleanses us
from our sins." (1 John 1:7)The Apostle Paul encouraged Christians to "walk in
love" just as Christ has loved us (Ephesians 5:2). He
also said that we should "walk as children of light."
(Ephesians 5:8).When the Bible uses the word walk it is referring to
the way we live our lives. We are to live as children
of light, with love in our hearts. We express, Love for
our Lord, love for our fellow Christians, and love for
those who do not know Jesus. The communion service each week is a wonderful time to
show that we are in fellowship with Christ and with one
another. It is a part of our "walking in the light"
that will help us through the rest of the week to have
a closer walk with our Lord.May God help us as we gather around the table to take
seriously this time when we draw near to him and become
closer to one another.----
