LANGUAGE IS POWER

A written word is a writhing cell,
the complete sentence a pliant limb,
an entire book a tireless runner
to whisk the reader to watered lands.
The Maker knit man's nerves and muscles,
His crowning work, the crest of God;
so poets ply their passionate craft
to shape a world and shower it with love.
I believe, I know, that language is power:
a fitting word can feed the hungry,
raise the dead, rally the weary.
I know, for I had need and am needy.
