Lettuce

Posted by: kmat <kmat@...>

Hello everyone!

I'm enjoying a "cool" morning...it is in the high 50's right now. It has
been so hot and humid the last few days, it is a welcome
break.

I have a question about lettuce. I planted two different kinds, at two
different times...first the leaf lettuce (which we have been enjoying LOTS
of!), and then I planted a second planting right after the 4th of July of
Mustard Tendergreen, but that one the bugs have seemed to enjoy right from
when it started to sprout...it is planted right next to the other leaf
lettuce, but they haven't bothered that at all! There are little holes in
the leaves, I'm just wondering if it is still ok to eat, or should I just
feed it to the chickens?

I was hoping to try a second kind this year, I've been reading about
"successive"?? plantings (I think that is what it is called?), so that you
can harvest lettuce continually. Just wondering if anyone does this, and if
they've found certain times that might be bad to start lettuce?

Thanks for any input!
