October 30^th                Mountains from molehills   

When the little things become great things

   

Luke 13:18-21 "He said therefore, "What is the kingdom of God like? And to what shall I compare it?  It is like a grain of mustard seed that a man took and sowed in his garden, and it grew and became a tree, and the birds of the air made nests in its branches."  And again he said, "To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?  It is like leaven that a woman took and hid in three measures of flour, until it was all leavened."  ESV

 

1.      Mustard Seed

a.       Tiny

b.      But not its only scripture reference

a.    Luke 17:5-6 "The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!"  And the Lord said, "If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you."  

b.    A tiny seeds that can produce a HUGE plant when turned over to God

a.  A tiny seed brings a great change

b. The tiny mustard seed grows to provide shelter for other, larger critters

2.    Leaven

a.    a substance, typically yeast, that is added to dough to make it ferment and rise.

b.    a pervasive influence that modifies something or transforms it for the better….."they acted as an intellectual leaven to the warriors who dominated the city"

c.    Leaven is spread by contact

d.    Leaven is widely diffusive

                                          i. One little bit of leaven can leaven a whole lump

e.    Leaven changes the particles it comes in contact with into its own nature

f.     A little leaven is a small part but it can bring great change

3.    People will try to tell you or make you feel like a little insignificant person

a.    Tell them OK

b.    Because in God's Hands a LITTLE THING is capable of GREAT THINGS!

4.    We may feel so tiny when compared to the world or the universe

a.    God has planted us here to make a BIG impact

b.    God has planted us here to do His work of changing others to be like us

                                          i. Evangelism – Making Disciples.

c.    God can use out Little faith and move Big Mountains

                                          i. I am not sure what MOUNTAIN is obstructing your LIFEPATH right now

1.    But with a little faith take that MOUNTAIN to God and let Him either:

a.    Shrink it

b.    Move IT

d.    You may THINK you have little RESOURCES but with a little faith take it to God

                                          i. Watch God make your resources go farther than you ever thought
