Luke 17:5 - 6 Got Faith?
Luke 17:5-6 "The apostles said to the Lord, "Increase our faith!" And the Lord said, "If you had faith like a grain of mustard seed, you could say to this mulberry tree, 'Be uprooted and planted in the sea,' and it would obey you." ESV
· The apostles were asking God to increase their faith
o They wanted more faith
o They knew they were not walking the path the way they really should be walking with Jesus
o The more Jesus taught them the more they understood their need for faith and to grow more with Jesus
- Hebrews 11:1-3 "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible." ESV
- The world cannot understand having CONVICTING BELIEF in things you cannot see, hold or prove scientifically
- The Christian lives their life by faith in God, His Son Jesus and by the Power of The Holy Spirit.
- Forsaking All, I Trust Him
- Full Assurance In Trusting Him
- Forever Always I'm Trusting Him
· Jesus told them a little is enough
o The "INCONVIENENT TRUTH" is that EVERY Christian has more FAITH than they want to handle already
- Faith is power
- With great power comes great responsibility
- We abdicate that responsibility daily
- So did the Apostles
- They NEVER lived up to their FULL POTENTIAL
- Neither do we
o God has so much more for us than we want to believe and receive.
- Our FAITH is so SMALL
- Smaller than a Mustard Seed
o Jesus was speaking to the 12, not the Temple Elite
- They believed in Him
- They had faith
- But were they living in the faith they had?
- Or were they trying to mix in their beliefs, their experiences or the ways of the world with their faith?
- That makes your faith small
- You should never DILUTE faith with FOLLY (the worlds way)
- It makes your faith weaker and weaker until you begin to wonder if it is really there.
· We need to use the faith we profess
- No excuses
- Not doubting Gods power
- Walking by faith
· We need to make sure we have the RIGHT KIND of faith
- What do you REALLY believe in?
- Do you truly believe in Jesus Christ as Son of God and Savior of the world or Do you believe in church?
- Do you believe in the Word of God and seek daily to live by God's Word or do you think it is a good book full of great advice?
- DO you really believe there is only ONE WAY to heaven (GRACE ALONE through FAITH ALONE in CHRIST ALONE) or do think that many paths and works and sacrifices will get you there?
- Does your LIFE REFLECT the thoughts in your brain right now?
- So many people are living by FAITH in a religious system and have missed God's Redemption completely.
- Matthew 7:21-23 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.'" ESV
- Folks, the science is settled:
- You can believe you are a Buick with all your heart but biology says you are a human – not a car…and NO….it does not matter how much time you spend in a garage.
- You can believe you are whatever….but genes and chromosomes do not lie! You are as God made you….no matter what you do to try to mask His Creative wisdom.
- You can believe in the church, good works, painful sacrifices or a religious system all you want, but without a total faith based on God's Amazing Grace you are hell bound.
- MAKE SURE your faith is the RIGHT KIND of faith
