Luke 20:41 - 47

October 1                    Humble Servant          Luke 20:41 – 47

Luke 20:41-47 "Then Jesus presented them with a question. "Why is it," he asked, "that the Messiah is said to be the son of David?  For David himself wrote in the book of Psalms: 'The LORD said to my Lord, Sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.' Since David called the Messiah 'Lord,' how can the Messiah be his son?" Then, with the crowds listening, he turned to his disciples and said, "Beware of these teachers of religious law! For they like to parade around in flowing robes and love to receive respectful greetings as they walk in the marketplaces. And how they love the seats of honor in the synagogues and the head table at banquets. Yet they shamelessly cheat widows out of their property and then pretend to be pious by making long prayers in public. Because of this, they will be severely punished."

  1. Jesus is not the son of David
    1. Jesus is the Son of God
    2. He is GREATER than man
    3. We error when we try to bring Jesus down to our level and make Him seem like a man

    1. They were to caught up in the genealogy – looking back for salvation instead of right in front of them.

                                                  i.      Trying to make the Messiah human

ii.      David may have sought Gods heart – but he was still JUST a man.  HE was not God.

  1. This text was very formative for me in my early "preacher boy" days

                                                  i.      All the way back to the Garden and the flood, God handpicked my ancestors, their cultures, their locations, their jobs and their very DNA so that on May 23, 1961 little baby Bob could be born

    1. God has invested to much in me, molding and making me just the way He wants me for me to reject Him and His plan and try to be someone I am not.
