Luke 24:1 - 12

July 15                        Luke 24:1-12

Many wonder why they don't see miracles in todays world like we see in the Bible.

Did God change?  No.

Are we expecting miracles?

Are we LOOKING for miracles?

Are we just expecting the worlds status quo?

But very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared.  They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance.  So they went in, but they didn't find the body of the Lord Jesus.  As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.   The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, "Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive?  He isn't here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day."  Then they remembered that he had said this.  So they rushed back from the tomb to tell his eleven disciples—and everyone else—what had happened.  It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and several other women who told the apostles what had happened.  But the story sounded like nonsense to the men, so they didn't believe it.  However, Peter jumped up and ran to the tomb to look. Stooping, he peered in and saw the empty linen wrappings; then he went home again, wondering what had happened.

We WANT to believe, but struggle trusting what we cannot see or control.

Even more so when life makes little sense to us and faith seems far away.

Our text today challenges us to stop being to HUMAN and believe in God; even when He makes no normal, scientific, HUMAN sense.

  • What are you thinking?
    • The women were preparing to care for a dead body
    • They were not thinking about what Jesus had told them
    • They were not thinking about His promises
    • They were dealing with a dead man the worlds way
    • They were just dealing with what they saw
      • They lacked faith
    • What are you thinking when the visible is in conflict with the invisible?
    • What are you thinking when the things you hoped for seem to be destroyed?
  • Where are you looking?
    • They went to a tomb to look for Jesus' body
  • What are you finding?
    • They found EMPTY
    • What are you finding?
    • What are you finding when you look for what can be seen?
    • What are you finding when you look for what you can hold and control?
    • What are you finding when you look in a bottle, baggy or tube?
    • Are you looking everywhere only to find EMPTY?
      • Look for Jesus
  • What are you doing?
    • These ladies FINALLY Remembered after they were REMINDED – hope renewed - REVIVAL
    • They went to TELL OTHERS!
  • Why are you wondering?
    • Peter wondered what happened
    • We know the full story
    • We know HE IS RISEN
    • We know He is ALIVE today
    • We know He is reaching for you today
    • No need to stoop….just call upon His name

He is not here, He is risen!

Stop thinking like the world

Start thinking like Jesus

SO often we profess faith but live our lives by what we can see and touch.

"Faith is the ASSURANCE of things hoped for, the CONVICTIONS of things not seen."  Hebrews 11;1  ESV
