Marci,Just a thought for keeping those chickens laying through winter. When we
lived non-electrically we used a Dietz lantern. I loved to get up in the
morning around 5 and watch all my neighbor Amish ladies running to their
chicken house with coats over their nightgowns. We'd light our Dietz
lanterns...hang them from a hook on the ceiling with a piece of baling
twine. It's a very low cost way to keep those chickens laying. It also
helps to sprinkle cayene pepper in their feed. The pepper speeds up their
metabolism and makes them feel warmer...Deanna
