The Puddle on the Ground

John 11:35 "Jesus wept." KJV

Introduction

It is the shortest verse in the Bible. Jesus is remembered for a lot of things but seldom is he remembered for his crying/weeping.

  1. The Puddle of Tears

    1. Jesus weeps over Jerusalem.

Luke 19:41-44, And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! But now they are hid from thine eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation. KJV

    1. Heart of compassion.
    2. The time of your visitation
    3. Christ is not the only one weeping.
    1. Peter recognized his sinfulness. He failed to show allegiance to the Lamb of God.
    2. Matt 26:75, And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly. KJV

    3. Women lamented the crucifixion. Luke 23:27-28 And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him. But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. KJV

These women beat their breast crying for the wrong one. Oh, but we would not have been any different. There seems to have been two emotions during the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. There was a vehement {fiery, passionate, zealous, burning or ardent} joy or a vexing {troublesome, bothersome, disturbing, or awkward} sadness.

  1. The Puddle of Sweat

Luke 22:44 And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. KJV

    1. The sweat of Jesus fell to the ground as great drops of blood.
    2. He was in agony.
    3. He was in prayer.
    1. The prayers and the agony was not just for His sake.
    2. Jesus prayed for Himself but it was for our cause that He prayed.
    1. Jesus experienced the agony Himself but it was so that we should not have to experience the agony of separation from God!
