Hello friends and family,I have a little more news from Bolivia and some on baby girl!Mary sent a brief e-mail from La Paz, first in Spanish, then translated into English. (Either she really learned her Spanish well or she used the Google translation tool!) They arrived at their hotel around 10 AM and rested a good bit. It takes a while to adjust to the high altitude, and some of the team members got sick from that. Mary is fine so far. They had already met several people in the church and were going to a youth meeting there tonight. Before she left, I got to watch the DVD of the open air mime skits they will be doing, and help Mary practice her part. She plays a party girl in King of Hearts, which is about 7 minutes long. There is another skit, Redeemer, that she isn't in. Like Julia, she packed a whole lot of small gifts and candy for the children there, and was really excited about giving them away. Her hotel has computers they can use for e-mail. She says her room, which she shares with another girl, is beautiful, and the landscape is magnificent.Julia called again today and said the construction team has been been "painting, painting, painting." They got to see what the medical team was doing in Entre Rios, but didn't have time to help them. They have a whole lot to do before they leave on Thursday or Friday for La Paz for some "down time" -- which Thad says should be called "up time" given the altitude of La Paz!Leonard Lippy, who has a daughter on the medical team, called this evening and shared this information:
- The construction team was able to get the Entre Rios mission cleaned up enough to be used for a medical outreach, which included surgery. When they first arrived, it was way too dirty for that. It's nice to see how the construction team is facilitating the medical team's outreach.
- Both teams have had significant interaction with the local people. Jeremy Jones, who is leading the medical team, preached at a tribal camp with an interpreter tonight.
- Tomorrow, both teams are traveling to an Indian village about 3 hours away. The construction team will convert a building into a church. The medical team will have a clinic. Both teams will do some sort of sharing the Gospel.
- Two of the medical team members (Mandy and Derek) have had a stomach bug, but nothing really serious. I don't think anyone else has gotten sick yet. Do pray for good health for all three teams!
One last note on Bolivia. The morning that Mary left, I was looking in my Bible for the verse about, "You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast..." to copy down on a card for her. What I found in Isaiah 26:1-12 reminded me of their ministry in La Paz and what has gone on there lately. In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; God makes salvation its walls and ramparts. Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal. He humbles those who dwell on high, he lays the lofty city low; he levels it to the ground and casts it down to the dust. Feet trample it down -- the feet of the oppressed, the footsteps of the poor. The path of the righteous is level; O upright One, you make the way of the righteous smooth. Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws, we wait for you; your name and renown are the desire of our hearts. My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you. When your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness. Though grace is shown to the wicked, they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil and regard not the majesty of the LORD. O LORD, your hand is lifted high, but they do not see it. Let them see your zeal for your people and be put to shame; let the fire reserved for your enemies consume them.LORD, you establish peace for us; all that we have accomplished you have done for us.La Paz is a very high city that has been brought very low (figuratively speaking) by the street protests of the poor and oppressed. There is much wickedness in Bolivia, which is the third largest cocaine producer in the world. Unless this nation repents, more conflict and judgment awaits them. The Mission:X teams goal, the desire of their hearts, is to make God's name renowned, and to see his righteousness transform the people of the world. All that they accomplish is what he is doing for them. As you pray for the people of La Paz, please keep these words in mind!~~~~~As for the latest baby news, yesterday our little preborn girl turned herself to breech position. I could tell from the location of her hiccups that she was head down yesterday afternoon, just as the midwives had been telling me for a few weeks. Then she started thrashing around vigorously for nearly an hour. By the time I got to my appointment this morning, she was lying nearly sideways, with her head pointing diagonally up on my left side, with hiccups and heart beat at the top of my belly. The two midwives who examined me said that there is plenty of room for her to turn back down since I have a very stretchy womb from having so many babies. If she is still breech next Tuesday (at 36 weeks), they will attempt a "manual version" to turn her. I hope this all works out, because I do not look forward to having a C-section or being "risked out" to an OB! Say a prayer for us!Blessings,Virginia Knowles-- To subscribe, send ANY message to: [email protected] To unsubscribe, send ANY message to: [email protected] Visit my web site at www://thehopechest.net
