I love this cookbook too. Many of the recipes are sent in by old neighbors
in South Dakota. Some having moved to Kansas. The ladies I know that
contributed are farmer wives and they do use lots of butter and whole milk.
The community we lived in in SD was a Mennonite town with a church on every
few miles in the country for the farmers and many in town. Even the folks
in Ohio, PA and CA are related to the Freeman, SD folks. Everyone is
related. When I make something using a recipe in the book I revise it. The folks in
SD laughed at me for this..they though it soooo funny!! The Mennonite women
are such excellent cooks across the board. Potlucks were a dream!! YUM!Sharon in CA
