MY HAND IS ON THE PLOW
by J. Randal Matheny

"Jesus said to him, 'No one who puts
his hand to the plow and looks back
is fit for the kingdom of God.'"
—Luke 9.62 NET

O Lord, my hand is on the plow,
I look ahead, beyond the Now,
Forgetting all I left behind,
With arms of steel, to seek and find —
To Your kind lead, I humbly bow.

I've no remorse, and no regret,
My eyes are fixed, my feet are set,
The heavy Cross my single goal,
Your perfect will consumes my soul:
I follow You who paid my debt.

No backward look in Kingdom's field,
The past is gone, the hurts are healed,
Your work is sweet with grace my tune,
This sweaty toil at hottest noon,
For eternal fruit and Spirit-sealed.

The heavenly host will soon descend,
As judgment comes for foe and friend,
O Lord, You'll wipe my burdened brow,
And I'll release this earthly plow,
To rise with You, world without end.
