MY LIBRARY
by J. Randal Matheny

Shelf on shelf of tomes and books,
Both stiff and paper, thick and thin;
Some merit study, others, looks,
Some speak of grace, still others, sin.

Each book's a story, sad or bold,
What one refutes, the next promotes;
In letters large the tale is told,
Or else in smallish type and notes.

Most tell of faith and work and hope,
And many explain the Bible's sense;
Some comfort, cheer or teach to cope,
While others parse Greek mood and tense.

For all their wealth, my books are dear,
Their presence serves to inspire and charm;
I keep these friendly authors near
To bolster heart and strengthen arm.
