Hello friends! This is just a reminder that today is the last day to sign up for the National Bible Bee at www.BibleBee.org. So far it looks like nearly 12,000 people (about 200 in the last hour) have enrolled nationwide in 338 local competitions. Please note that as part of the sign-up process, you may need to phone your local coordinator to get the code for the local Bee. If you live in the Orlando area, the local Bee is at First Baptist in Altamonte Springs, and the code is 2009-1381.I know I have already mentioned the Bible Bee several times to you, but I just wanted to take this one last opportunity to strongly encourage you to join in! I can't think of anything more vital in any child's education than the Scriptures. I still remember many of the verses I memorized 30 years ago while on Teen Missions teams (Scotland 1979 and Israel 1980). I know it was then, because it was in the King James version, which I haven't used since then! What a treasure it is to have God's Word hidden in our hearts! What better knowledge can you give to your children? Here is a short blurb from the site: "The Shelby Kennedy Foundation is launching the first-of-its-kind, world-class National Bible Bee Competition. The competition will begin with local contests in communities nationwide on September 12, 2009. The top 100 finalists from each age group will advance to the National Contest in Washington D.C. to compete on November 5-6, 2009."So who is Shelby Kennedy? "On May 31, 2005 at the age of 23, Shelby Kennedy went home to be with the Lord after an intense struggle with cancer. Shelby was described as a “one-in-a-million Christian who had an unusual spiritual gift of faith, a special person who radiated joy, life, and hope to everyone she met.” Although Shelby had minimal energy and needed to use a wheelchair most of the time she was awake, what energy she had was focused on proclaiming Jesus Christ. Her testimony of hope in the midst of a fiery trial sparked a spirit of revival in those around her. Much of what kept Shelby’s joy alive in her last days was time spent studying the Word of God. Shelby is the inspiration behind the Shelby Kennedy Foundation, a nonprofit ministry established in her name to encourage children and youth to grow in Christ through Scripture memorization. Shelby’s testimony sparked an incredible vision—to launch a world-class Bible Bee!"
The cost is $20 for the first child, $15 for the second, $10 for subsequent children, with a maximum of $75 per family. Payments are made via PayPal.Students ages 7-18 may enroll. You may choose between five different Bible versions: KJV, NKJV, NASB, ESV and NIV. The official study materials (the verses to be memorized, etc.) will be sent out tomorrow by e-mail, but optional study materials are already available at http://www.biblebee.org/optionalstudymaterials.php. These include such topics as Why Memorize Scripture, How to Memorize Scripture, Introducing the Memorization of Scripture to Your Family, How to Memorize Long Passages, How to Study a Book of the Bible, and more. These would be very helpful even if you are not enrolling in the Bible Bee!Please pass this notice along to your friends right now! (Remember, time is slipping away!)Blesssings,Virginia Knowles--
