near disaster averted

Lately I have noticed the nut that holds the jack on the guitar for the
amp chord has been coming loose. I tightened it best as I could. What
kind of wrench are you supposed to use to get into that tight recessed
area? Sunday morning before church it did it again. I didn't have a
wrench or pliers so finger tight was going to have to do. As I turned
the nut it popped off along with the washer and of course the jack slid
into the guitar. Used my pocket knife to fish it back out and hold it
while putting the nut back on, except it wouldn't hold. The threads had
disintegrated. I had no back up guitar with me. I plugged the chord into
the jack wrapping the cord around my strap so it wouldn't pull. I didn't
set the guitar down again until we were finished for the day as I was
afraid of the consequences. Once I got home I pillaged the nut from my
12 string. Pretty sad when you have to take parts of a $200 guitar to
fix your $2600 one. I am pretty sure the nut on the parker was aluminum
it was very flimsy feeling - not surprised it wore out. The one on the
OLP felt like a tank in comparison. The lesson I learned is once the nut starts coming loose replace it!
Different subject - we are having a little jam feast this coming
Saturday. We have invited several folks who used to play at church and
some other friends to come join in. It is an outdoor event and we are
going to grill some tasty animals as well. It ought to be a lot of fun
and I am looking forward to playing guitar with some guys I haven't been
around in a while. It hasn't rained in a couple months - bad as we need
the rain I hope it waits until afterwards.Peace
